So does anyone on here do any type of survival training or bug out bag stuff. I am interested and have actually started a bug out bag ( far from completing it) and am wandering if anybody has any advice or stuff to put in my BoB. I'm not some extremist that thinks the US is on the verge of some huge meltdown or that global warming is about to nuke us all, just a guy that likes the outdoors and thinks it would be a unique set of skills to have in case the above mentioned does happen.

but it largely depends on your bag and how long you intend to be gone.

Some people even go as far as having a .22lr rifle that can be broken down.

I think the bare minimums are......

MREs- you can get a huge box for pretty cheap and one meal can last all day. they are about 4,000 Cal so you should not eat one in a day if food is limited.
Water purification- tablets and some sort of filter.
Knife- A good quality one, for some crazy situation like this I suggest ESEE.
Lighter- one or two, just a regular BIC.
Toilet Paper- Take the roll out and crunch it down.
Flashlight/Chem sticks/batteries- Lots of batteries, and lots of chem sticks.
Multi Tool- Leatherman Wave is a nice one
550 Cord- its a military grade nylon cord, that can be used for ANYTHING.
*Tent or tarp- I would suggest a tarp, if you have to build a shelter, this would be much lighter and just as good.
Gloves/Socks- Protect the most important parts of your body. You would be surprised how quick your feet go when damp/dirty.
Medical kit- Either build your own or buy one.
Sleeping bag/ISO mat/Cold weather gear- Prepare for the worst, its better to have too much and get rid of it, than need it and not have it.
    Map/pens/radio/whistle/flare gun.

You have to ask for it.. because.. it's serious business.

You have to ask TJ for access to it. It just filled with politics and other garbage. One thread just got off topic and ended up on BoB ironically.

I saw a neat device the other day that was a hand crank electric outlet. It was about 70bucks so I didn't get one but have any of you ever seen or used one. If it works well would be great to keep your cellphone up. I feel like now a days that would be very important even though many true survivalist would do without. Lots of apps such as compass or flashlight plus if cell service is still up it would be very handy when ready for rescue or whatever.

Just for conversation sake how long, if the **** went down, do you guys think the "Government" could keep things like police/fire/hospitals online before that broke down also. Just for conversation purposes of course?

well the purpose of a BoB is typically only 72 hours, but worst case scenario you have basic tools to help you survive.

But in the event of every major city being hit with a nuke, or every computer system going down or whatever. I would say not very long in major cities depending on the problem. Govt would probably try a lockdown but people do not understand that the military and law enforcement have families. You would likely not even have a functioning system within a few days. Which is why I laugh at the idea when people suggest that the military are going to go around kicking in doors of everyday citizens.

So for convo purposes only, in a scenario with nationwide no utilities, hospitals, or any sort of 'structure'......I'd say a week tops.

I tend to agree with that. The bigger the urban area, the less control would be my guess.
