Palmer came from the Giants who had Kevin Gilbride as an OC. Gilbride is a big fan of option routes going back to his run and shoot days--which is mostly option routes.

No I think they are cutting out excess plays they don't feel comfortable with and gonna run something they all click with. Locker said there were option plays they ran with confidence but some things just didn't work.

Palmer ran option plays almost exclusively. And also they ran big 4/5 verts/stem routes on almost every 4/5 wide play. Some quicker timing passes would benefit the team and lockers success a lot. He can read those routes by himself and not have to rely on the receiver to always make the same adjustment.

Yes option routes are a good thing if you have a veteran team that clicks and runs on all cylinders. But every route? Cuz I'm pretty sure that's very close to where we were at.

I don't think we are going to cut them out entirely. We will scale them back and only run the select few that they really feel can be helpful and create positive plays.

Again this move also had a lot to do with palmers attitude toward players and players not feeling comfortable with him.

Quick reads are hard for those who can't think fast.

Option routes were half of why Cook didn't see balls. QB's haven't been sure of where he'll be.

I watch Jared play and he's seeing holes in the defense and going for them, the QB's haven't picked up on this much though.

I'm pretty positive cook hasn't been the first or second read... For awhile.

Well he's been running free and seeing no targets. I'd say thats on the QB. Maybe he should be the 1st read more.

Also, just giving him a certain route to run could possible heighten his look rate. I also tend to think some west coast tendencies would help locker from throwing high. Three step drop and boom. Less time for him to screw up with his feet and throw high balls. Maybe he's not suited for that but I don't see why not.

Well cook should first catch the balls thrown at him to become that first read....

I'm not saying he's perfect, and clearly there's some trust issues going on with him, but when I see a guy open and we don't make any gains, I question what we're doing.
