So why did Bud Adams fire Mike Reinfeldt?

Turn your focus away from the draft picks who didn’t pan out for the Titans under Mike Reinfeldt’s watch.

Look past some of the free agency acquisitions who failed to make the desired impact during his tenure as General Manager.

Reinfeldt wasn’t fired on Monday by owner Bud Adams for those reasons.

In my mind, one of the biggest reasons Reinfeldt is out the door is because of something else: Adams felt like Reinfeldt didn’t act fast enough – or at all — when he told him he wanted in the Peyton Manning chase last spring.

And he’s held it against him ever since.

If you remember, Adams went public with his desire to acquire the former Colts quarterback last March. He told The Tennessean he’d be “disappointed” if the Titans didn’t get him.

The Titans didn’t get Manning, of course. He ended up signing with the Broncos after being courted by several teams, including the Titans.

In the days leading up to Adams going public with his interest in Manning, he’d repeatedly told Reinfeldt he wanted the team to get involved. As senior executive vice president and COO, Reinfeldt stayed in regularly communication with the 89-year-old Adams.

Adams felt like Reinfeldt didn’t take him seriously enough, and wondered if he even spread the news to General Manager Ruston Webster or Coach Mike Munchak. At the time, the Titans were focused on making it work with quarterbacks Jake Locker and Matt Hasselbeck.

Manning, of course, turned in a great comeback season in Denver, and the Broncos have the No.1 seed in the AFC. The Titans finished 6-10 in part because of disappointing play at the quarterback position. Adams has wondered since what might have been.

Was the delayed pursuit of Manning the sole reason Reinfeldt lost his job with two years left on his contract? No. I’m sure other factors played into the decision as well.

But one thing everyone always says about Adams is you don’t want to get on his bad side. Reinfeldt never got off it, and today he’s out of a job.

I always thought MR and Munchak never gave it their all to get Manning. They went through the motions but didn't really want him, and Peyton probably saw right through them. If it is true, I hope MR never works in the NFL again, lousy bum.

Despite how crazy Adams may be, he was 100% Correct on Manning. And if anyone remembers Munchak and MR were against the idea until Adams said something. I think they both should get axed.

That's not the major reason. This is just to whip up the Peyton lovers. A critical look at MR's body of work reveals he made more bone-headed moves than good ones. And Bud at least recognizes the direction of the "re-build" under MR was/is going nowhere. I can at least give Bud credit for that.

Okay, so I got the indisde scoop from my friend who has an uncle that owns a lumber yard that Bud Adams contractor goes to. He says that Bud was in all upset and wanted to fire someone but could not decide who. So he had the picture of every key person in the organization put up on a wall. Then he had himself blidfolded and threw a dart at the wall. Dart landed on Reinfelt.

From my understanding MR was fired simply because he had little if no fuction in his current role as COO/VP other than collaborating with RW on some personnel issues.
