Coming off a rookie year in which he posted a team-leading seven sacks – tied for fourth in the league among all defensive tackles – Karl Klug had high expectations for the 2012 season.

But things didn’t work out the same way this year for Klug, who found himself bumped down in the defensive tackle rotation by rookie Mike Martin. He wound up getting on the field for an average of just 16 snaps per game in 2012, a significant reason his sacks dropped to 3.5 and his tackles dropped from 32 to 13.

“As a team it was a disappointing season and individually it was pretty disappointing,” Klug said. “When I did have the opportunity to get into the game, I didn’t make enough plays to earn more reps, so my playing time was cut back quite a bit.”

If there was a bright side for Klug, it was that things got better as the year progressed, as he recorded all 3.5 of his sacks in the last six games.

“I think that comes from getting more snaps,” Klug said. “A lot of times when you get a sack it’s from the whole defense. The secondary locks down the receivers and the other defensive linemen are pressuring. So I don’t know, a lot of the time, sacks just come from getting snaps.”

Klug bean the season at 275 pounds, but was down to 270 by the end of the year. He’d like to bulk up to 280 for next year, with the hopes of being more effective against the run.

“You just have to keep working,” Klug said of getting increased playing time next year. “You just have to go out and make plays when you do have the opportunity. If you don’t do that, you don’t get the snaps.”

I was disappointed by his playing time as well. He had a solid rookie season, especially for a late round pick. Led the teams in sacks, then gets his snaps reduced?

I too was disappointed but it's not "Titans logic", Mike Martin is a better all around player and Marks improved.

Marks was **** against the run . Klugs numbers were actually better than his, with limited snaps. Martin however is the better player, marks should have been the odd man out but OL Grey liked his fiestiness and decided to give him the snaps...

I would like to see Klug get more reps. Other players need more reps to get into a so called grove, perhaps that applies to DL as well. I think he and Martin are good for next year.

The line up should be Casey and Martin. Klug rotational. Send marks packing.

Klug should try to convince Casey to workout with him this offseason. I think Casey could be better if he were in better shape and not so blubbery. It looks like he's got a gutted seal stuffed inside his pants.
