No.. thats the surefire way of screwing up your team. You figure out what your needs are, NOT the biggest, and then pick the BPA to fill that position depending on those needs.

Theres a reason why people who "reach" usually end up falling.

Building around your young, and hopefully future QB, you need to surround him with talent or else hes not going far.

The only reason you know our WR's names is because you are a fan of the team. Id bet that 1/2 the Colts/Texans/Jags fans cant even name our receivers, other than Britt, and maybe now Wright.

I thought we needed a WR last year, and I think we need one this year too. Its just one of many needs.

You dont have to reach to fill your biggest needs. There is this thing called trading where you can trade down and get more value anyways!

That doesn't guarantee that the player you want will be available. The always popular pick of trading back is nice but if the guy you're targeting is gone then it's kind of a waste. So now you're just reaching even more. Also if you have a major need(s) trading back doesn't help, this option is mostly used by teams who can afford moving back a few spots and still being okay. We're hardly ever in the position where we don't have to add the top talent available.

Only issue I've had with our drafts the past couple of years is not addressing the OL early but that doesn't mean Kendall Wright was a bad pick. If we're judging picks based on where we should've went then Zach Brown was a bad pick as well because we didn't take Peter Konz.

The only issue people have with Kendall Wright is that they wish he was someone else. He had a very good rookie season given the circumstances (bad QB play, bad OL, just a mess everywhere).

Hmm it worked out for the rams this year who made a vast improvement. They competed with almost every team and won more games.

Trading back and not getting the player you had in mind does not mean your are reaching. By trading back you get more picks which builds overall better depth and the possibility of drafting a stud. We try to add top talent available for the last couple of years and look how that has worked out for us! You draft by need not bpa. If you draft by bpa you might end up like the lions and drafting 3 first round wr's in a row, or whatever they did that was crazy.

For the majority the best teams in the NFL have all drafted based on need. Not BPA. For example look at all the OL talent the 49'ers drafted or how the pats always go with their biggest need regardless if there is someone who is projected to be a better player!

We're not a complete enough team to be drafting by need, thats a strategy only the better teams can pull off.

When you look at our roster, no one jumps out at you, BPA is still the right move for us.

Wrong. How do you think these teams become complete enough teams? They increase their overall depth and quality not by adding "hopefull stars" but by fixing their biggest problems. You build great teams by having overall better depth. You dont just draft "hopefull studs" to save your team. That puts to much emphasis on the success of that player.
