eh. It's a heavy mix of a few elite players, but Revis isn't in that conversation for me.

He's a system player that wasn't anyone special until Rex Ryan came along, then made his name off interceptions/returns moreso than actually shutting WRs down.

He's a good corner. Just not top 3 or #1 like people act.

    Cromartie, Tillman, Browner, Haden, etc...

Deuce is flat out wrong about Revis. He was fantastic before Rex. NFL Total Access had him as a top 3 guy and Deion was already hyping the guy as the best.

Duece is always accusing of others listening to the hype, but he doesn't seem to know anything about anyone until they become hyped.

Anyway, I've got Sherman as the best in the league right now.

Sherman is definitely better than Browner... hard to say that he's the #1 CB in the league though.

It's hard to rank CBs... there are a lot of really good ones, but very few elite - if any - at the moment.

Uh... he wasn't elite until Rex.

And he still wasn't. He just got a lot of interceptions. See: Michael Griffin.

That's not even close to being true.

Revis made his name by being a great cover corner before Rex Ryan went to the Jets, and it has nothing to do with the "system". Revis made the Pro Bowl in his 2nd year in the league in 2008 when Mangini was still the coach.

In 2008, Randy Moss and the Patriots were scoring at will on everyone - except Revis. Revis held Moss to 2 catches for 22 yards in the first game and 3 catches for 26 yards in the 2nd game.

He only averages 3 INTs a season over his 6 year career, so he has hardly made his name off interceptions.

He made his name because Revis is the best pure cover corner in the NFL.

I agree there are a heap of good young corners (Browner, Haden etc) and that Revis isn't worth the money he is going to demand, but his talent is undeniable.

I think you are correct in the sum of your assessment... However, I just think Revis peaked a few years ago. Fans are so unwilling to acknowledge the fact that athletes peak and it is at different times for different people. Revis had a 2-3 year window where he was the best in the game. To say he was more picks than shutting people down doesn't agree with the numbers.

Duece, instead of listing a buncha stats from 2009, his peak year, why not just play the Revis Island Game from 2009 to see all of the stud receivers he shut down. You just match their name to the stats: http://www.sporcle.com/games/nyjet624/revisland

I think Revis could help this D out and I would take him here in a heart beat. He's a little older but it doesn't take much to gel with a new defense as opposed to bringing in an offensive player. I trust that Revis can hold his own our defense and we would just need to fix the Michael Griffin problem and keep developing our players and draft well on D and we could have a respectable defense.

Jerry Gray should be begging them to bring some help in... I'm sure that guy wants to keep his job... so why not bring in experienced players that dont need a lot of coaching?
