Browns - Fans Submit New Uniform Ideas

Deuce, I'll give you props for trying something unique and I think you definitely have some really cool stuff going on. There are also some serious flaws with that concept, but that's not unusual for version 1.

For one, the colors are too similar (especially in the large image to the right). It probably wouldn't present well on television. That might just be a problem with your rendering and not the actual idea, though. Just lighten up that light blue a bit and I think the issue is solved.

Another problem is that the number font is pretty illegible (and downright ugly) -- is that supposed to be a 7?

Then there's the issue of the lack of white. I don't have a problem with no white on the uniforms, but for the primary logo to be just one color is pretty revolutionary (or perhaps de-evolutionary) and I just don't see it flying in the NFL. Frankly, that logo doesn't work with just one color. The blade and the outline can't be the same color or you sort of lose the intended effect.

Also, NFL rules don't allow a Nike logo to go there. I assume you just recolored a college uniform and didn't bother to correct that, but that would have to change.

I'd love to see you mock up a version with a more appropriate number font (maybe like Texas A&M, which mirrors the effect in the Titans' sword logo), corrected colors and an away uniform. And, if you can stomach it, some white.

Im not digging the number font - looks like the memphis grizz font. And uni needs some white, im down for ditching the red thats too much going on i agree.

But that helmet concept is awesome.

Can we all petetion the helmet and sword logo to the titans FO somehow??

Most of us seem in favor of the
T - Sword makes us look meaner with more attitude.

Doubt bud adams would green light the idea though.

 

I dig. I think the numbers would have to be white or grey and maybe make the pants on both grey as well. The current ones would be very stagnant looking as a full team on tv.

 

Agreed. Throwing a slight silver outline on The sword would make it Come off that helmet. It would be almost invisible how it is on tv.

 

I actually thought of doing silver for outlines and all.

I'm skipping white, because I hate it- personally. But yeah, the font is Nike-esque/futuristic and that's what I wanted this entire uni to be. Modern and a new take. Much like the Seahawks where everyone at first was like "Oh my god that's terrible..." but loved them by season's end.

The monochrome thing has been done in college a bit, and it works. With HD these days "readability" via TV isn't a big issue. Basketball teams where white numbers on white jerseys with grey outlines. Football teams lately do similar. So I'm not worried about that part. 5 years ago, that would have mattered. No longer.

But it's just a first draft, and I'm not too pleased. I do think it's lightyears above what we currently have.



And the logo on the helmet doesn't have to be insanely visible, either. It would be plenty due to the contrast of light blue/dark blue (see our shoulder yokes and if you have a problem seeing them), but it wouldn't really matter.

I don't think that helmet works at all. It looks good right up close, but would look awful from more than a few feet.

I really think you need a keyline around your logo. That's pretty much sports logo design 101.

 

I think even just one side of the sword with a silver outline would make to pop. And trading white for grey/silver would be my choice. Grey pants or accents.

 

Sports logo design 101..... ORRRRR... outdated/cliche' thinking.

I know a lot of you uniform only design folks forget design is still art-- but it is.



Hate to inform you guys, but you'd better evolve your way of thought- sports design isn't as boring and "by the book" as it used to be. Designers are now taking artistic freedoms to go with a better look, rather than what was once standard, boring, template design.






Keylines will fade out. I promise you.
