This thread teaches me that I'm probably wasting time discussing things on this forum.

So I've been thinking about what I would actually consider the biggest mistake in Titans history (not including the Oilers because it would be the firing of Phillips) and I have to say that it was picking Kevin Dyson over Randy Moss. If we had chosen Moss it would have given our team a dimension it never had by giving it a legitimate down field threat which would have opened up our offense considerably. Eddie George wouldn't have faced 8 men in the box on every carry. McNair wouldn't have had to run as much which would have increase his durability and prolonged his career.

If we had taken Moos I think we would have had at least two super bowls rings and McNair and George would be in the HoF

We could play the "what if" game when looking at mistakes the franchise has made but IMO if Locker doesn't pan out picking him is right up there with passing on Moss.

We are picking #8 at the time and only one QB has gone off the board so basically the franchise has their pick of anyone except Newton. I'm not totally cashing it in on Locker but that was a pretty stocked draft for QBs if you consider Dalton, Kaep in there with Gabbert and Ponder. Now the good thing I think is we got one of the better guys of that group as far as potential. I think strickly looking at upside Kaep and Locker were the top guys. Strong arms, running ability, tough kids with no baggage. But Kaep had the silly tag as a pistol offense guy, played against inferior competition and all that which smart people like Harbaugh pay no attention to. Locker was more inconsistent, more injury prone, worse accuracy and Kaep has an even stronger arm. My point is I'd have taken Kaep straight up at #8 over Locker and said so in some of the forums (I actually mentioned taking Mallet there as well before Locker).

Oh, what about Mallet? Well here is the things. Say the Titans took Watt, decided to wait until the 2nd round to get a QB but horrifically see Dalton and Kaep go right before our pick. The worst thing is we take Mallet (how horrible to get a guy who threw 33 TDs to only 3 ints his senior year, has a rocket arm and stands 6'6). By the way reports were that the stupid Patriots had Mallet rated as the best QB in the draft and the stupid Patriots got him with the draft pick they got from Minnesota when they traded Moss. That is why some teams are smart and win and others are just plain stupid.

Now granted Mallet hasn't proven anyting so far but has Locker? And if he did bust we would be out a 2nd or 3rd dound pick (we picked 77 in the 3rd, Pats picked Mallet at 74 so in thoery if they really wanted him they would have to use the 2nd or trade up in the 3rd).

You see the problem is people some how equate getting picked in the top 10 meaning you are good. No it means you were picked in the top 10 and some guy picked a round or two later can be just as good. Locker coming out, no matter what people think or say, was not a better prospect than Kaep, Dalton or Mallet IMO and no way I would have touched Gabbert or Ponder before the 2nd round.

But we signed Hass, sat Locker on the bench all of his first year anyway so even if Kaep or Mallet or whoever was going to take a year or so to break out did it really matter?

    :notworthy:

I just threw up in my mouth thinking about how we have butchered our last drafts.

I was high on Julio that year but ATL jumped us. I then wanted Watt. I was so disappointed we went with Locker. And Mallet would have been a steal in the 2nd like he fell. We'll have to see if he has matured, his knock was he thought like a 13 year old.

I'll be shocked if Mallet ever does anything quality in the pros.

You typically end up regretting it when you draft for need instead of BPA. I know it's a bit different with the QB position. Sometimes you need to reach. This obviously wasn't one of those times though.

In hindsight it was very dumb to pass up on a guy like JJ Watt and reach for Locker when there was all that QB talented rated right around the same range (Kaep, Dalton, Ponder, Mallett). If Locker doesn't pan out that decision is going to haunt us for a long time. Especially since Watt ended up being drafted into our division.

But Dyson over Moss will likely always get the award for "biggest mistake ever" from me. Because I truly believe he would've been the difference-maker we needed to get us over that final hump to hoist a Lombardi trophy, or two.

He was the top QB? Then how did he go as the 6th QB in a draft of 12 QBs? How was he not even the 1st QB taken in the 2nd round? Sounds to me like he was a middle of the pack QB on alot of teams boards ...

Honestly with the way college qbs are coming in now, you could easily say a rookie that replaces locker might propel us to a playoff run. Rg3, luck, Wilson... They all made play offs... Kaepernick with the 9ers could even be used somewhat.

The thing about those teams tho is they built around the qbs. We put locker in an alternate reality. Lol even if we did build around his strengths, his accuracy might never improve... But the way the contracts are now.. It's much easier to move on quicker. Sucks we lost out on a top pick but you sometimes have to reach in the QB business.
