We should not ignore the coaching either. OL has always been a strength on this team. Both OTs are in their prime years. And we had been ok with guys like Harris and Amano in the past. Are they being prepared as well? Do they work as well together? Is there a technic issue?

I have always loved Bruce Matthews. Which is why it kills me to say he may not be cut out to be an OL coach. His style was rather unorthodox when he played. So he may not be the best to be coaching players.

It's pretty hard to be the weakest link with the trash that lined up next to him. However, when Amano went down, we got an upgrade with Velasco. All year he held his own, which is amazing considering the terrible guards he had next to him. Enhance the guard play, and he'll get even better. I'm not saying he was a pro-bowler, but we have many other needs than center if we resign him. He's more than good enough to be a starter. I wouldn't mind taking Barrett Jones in the 2nd round though, then start Barrett at guard. If Velasco struggles, or we go tackle next year. Move Stewart to RG, Jones to C, Velasco then is the oddman out.

Sign Deuce Lutui to a deal, he is good depth and played well last year. Durand will be back and was looking good before he went down in preseason. Amanos contract needs to be reworked if we have him back to compete for a guard spot. Byron Stingley is an option at tackle. We need to draft a stud tackle or guard or get a young one in FA. Huch is too costly for what he brings to the table. If you need a day off in the middle of every week you dont command 6.75 mil!

Point is, if we cut Hutch, that is just another position we have to fill. I'm fine with that, I just don't want to cut him and end up seeing Amano starting for us.

Amano was a great guard, just a poor center. Some guys can do both, some cant. He is younger and cheaper than Hutch and just had a year off. Maybe he will play well in 2013.

Can somebody pull up his stats when he was a guard? He got his payday as a guard and then we didnt resign Mawae and moved him to center.

That's the problem though. Munch needs to win ASAP or his career as a head coach is over forever. I honestly don't think he's necessarily thinking long-term right now. Which leads me to believe he'd rather stick with what's familiar rather than completely revamping an entire unit. Especially one as vital as the OL. OL's can take time to gel. Time that Mike Munchak doesn't have.

At least publicly, Munch seems to believe we simply caught some bad breaks last year. Maybe he feels different privately. Hopefully he does. I just look at what he's done, or not done, with the coaching staff and can't help but think the roster/depth chart is going to be treated much the same.

I'll honestly be surprised if we have more than one new name starting on the OL when 2013 kicks off.

He may. But he obviously wanted both a G and C last offseason. I think he wanted to let Amano, Harris and Velasco battle it out for the other G. He had to have a plan heading into free agency.

There's a lot he can't know right now. Can Hutch be better? Can Amano return to 100% and, if he does, can he move back to G? Does Velasco have upside? Is it time to look for the future at tackle(s)?

I see a bunch of question marks that I don't think even Munch/Matthews will be able to answer.
