Former Titans quarterback Vince Young sent an apologetic text message to Jeff Fisher in the days following his infamous tirade in 2010, when he stormed out of the locker room after a game against the Redskins.

Now, he claims he recently sent a letter to the former Titans coach apologizing for his actions with the team during his five seasons in Tennessee.

It both cases it’s too little, too late.

Young is trying to put on a good face to get back into the NFL, when teams don’t see him as a viable answer any more.

“I definitely wanted to apologize for the things that I did,” Young said of Fisher, now with the Rams, in an interview on “NFL AM” on Wednesday. “Letting him know about the frustrations, all the different things that were going on in my life at the time and wanted him to know I really did appreciate him trying to make me become one of those type of leaders on the team and a successful quarterback. … At the time being immature and not paying attention and not listening and taking my frustrations out on a lot of people wasn’t the right thing to do.”

The Titans made Young the third overall pick of the 2006 draft but they released him after the 2010. The release came a few months after he got into a verbal altercation with Fisher in the locker room at LP Field after the game against the Redskins.

That event, however, was one of many episodes when his maturity was fair game to question. After failed stints in Philadelphia and Buffalo, he’s trying to get back into the NFL. He plans to work out in front of NFL teams March 26 at University of Texas pro day.

My take: Teams have seen Young enough by now. There’s a reason why he hasn’t resurfaced in the league after the Bills let him go. Part of it has to do with the questionable work ethic he showed while in Tennessee, though flaws in his game have also been exposed over the years.

I’m not sure anyone gives Young another chance, although in a league where the trend is toward athletic quarterbacks, it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

Young clearly has confidence in himself.

“I really feel like I can do a much better job than a lot of, most quarterbacks in the league,” he said on “NFL AM.”

He said his release from the Bills had more to do with his financial issues than with his football. Young received $26 million guaranteed from the Titans in 2006, but his former financial advisor recently claimed that the quarterback was in a bind.

“I don’t really feel like it was my game. I just really feel like (it was) some of the off-the-field issues,” Young said about being cut from the Bills. “I really feel like teams don’t want their quarterback to be in a position where they’re distracted.

“I was young at the time and I put my trust in a lot of people. I was getting taken advantage of. Basically I’m the victim of the situation. Just got to clean up that mess, just to let teams know I’m a little bit more mature than I used to be. I’ve grown a whole lot.”

Young was 30-17 (regular season) as the starter with the Titans. Since that 2010 game against the Redskins, the Titans are 16-22.

Easiest way back is to head north to the CFL for a year, not the most glamorous way, but it's worked for lots of guys.

B/c that would be a waste of a year. He's too good for the CFL. If someone gives him the starting Job and goes with it from day 1 and makes the offense to fit VY's strengths, then he would be a beast.

Regardless of his playing ABILITY, thats beside the point. A lot of teams realize he is a talented QB but wont touch him because of his maturity. Start for a year in the CFL, show you can be productive and not have a meltdown, THEN come back and try your luck in the NFL if anyone will take that chance again.

Last year, when he was out of the league...... THAT is a waste of a year

It seems that if he couldn't make it with the two teams he was with after the Titans, then all the maturing in the world won't help. He couldn't learn the Eagles' playbook and he couldn't learn Buffalo's. The young man is as dumb as a stump. There are no dumb QB's. none

At least it would show he cares and is not just out for a paycheck.
