The Titans have been experimenting with rookie Lavar Edwards at a few different spots on the defensive line, and he’s started to flash more in recent practices.

Edwards, a fifth round pick out of LSU, had a sack in the preseason opener against the Redskins. He’s lined up both inside and outside in practices.

“He’s learning, he has a lot going on,’’ Coach Mike Munchak said. “He’s probably more comfortable at the end spot, and I think we’ll keep trying to get comfortable with what we are doing.”

Edwards said he still has a lot to learn, especially when it comes to playing inside. One of his primary points of emphasis in camp is learning to play better with hands while trying to fight past offensive linemen.

“It’s been a challenge,’’ he said. “The main thing that’s different is the speed of the game. It was fast in college, but it’s a lot faster in the NFL. Just to get acclimated to the speed of the game. Everybody is big, strong and fast here.”

I assume the goal here is to have him be able to backup both at DT and DE but I'd hope the Titans would focus him at DE and let him learn that position well before trying him inside where it looks to be really deep.

Sounds a bit like Jason Jones. Perhaps he can be the healthy Jason Jones we never had. I'd be ok with that.

Hopefully we found a gem in the 5th round. He looked good in the pre-season opener.

Edwards and Scott Solomon were the only guys who stood out on defense in the second half against the Redskins.

So far this looks like the right pick because his teammate Sam Montgomery that was drafted way before him in the third round showed up way out of shape down in Houston.

Mel Kiper said he thought Edwards was the better pro prospect than Montgomery.

There were guys with similar measurables who were drafted in the 2nd and 3rd rds. Not sure why he fell to the 5th but i'm glad he did.

He was behind a few guys in the rotation at LSU and didn't get the snaps or stats to warrant much attention. I voted him as my favorite pick this year, as I believe he can become a stud.
