We've seen Ayers & Brown succeed (look at the ending of last year). MLB is our biggest hole (on our LB group), we need to fix that. I believe next year (with a new coaching staff, hopefully) that Ayers & Brown will turn it around.

Impact DE, RT, QB are all bigger needs the a MLB who is a two don player at best.

You don't need PFF to tell you that Brown hasn't played well this year. You can see it in the games. He isn't making plays and he quits when he gets beat. He makes the routine plays, but he isn't consistently hustling. This was the concern in the draft. They need to sit him until he gets hungry again. He was hungry last year.

You can watch Brown and Bowman/Willis, Sean Lee, Kuechly, etc and see which one isn't like the other.

Last year the LBs were playing well and we were all mentioning them as the strength of this defense. Then, naturally, Munch fires the LB coach and gives the job to his old college roommate. Now our LBs suck and are a concern going forward. Weird.

I meant biggest hole on the LB group, not biggest hole on our team.

I think some of you are overrating how much positional coaching truly matters. Blame for players not giving effort is more on the players than the coaches. Players need to self-motivate.

And I would argue the biggest problem with the LBs is a lack of talent/instincts.

    Is it?

It looks like the locker room has been lost, and if thats the case, thats 100% on the coaches.

I would argue we have two of the more talented OLB in the league, can't really say the same about instincts. Honestly, I think this comes down to a large % on coaching. So much, that its useless to even address the position seriously until some changes are made. Brown was on fire first half of the season, and now he is invisible and questioning coaching decisions.

    Locker room was lost IMO.

I certainly don't think it's all on the position coach. Still, it was a dumb, unnecessary move and reason #517 why Munch is an incompetent head coach.

It's just funny. I remember the consensus around here last year being that we had one of the most talented LB groups in the league. Raw, sure. But many of us thought that group was pretty much set for years to come. Assuming Colin could stay healthy, which he can't.

Maybe its just me but when McCarthy was in for Fokou he was flying all over the place and making plays it seemed like he was in every tackle then Fokou came back and everything went flat. Not to mention Fokou has been making costly plays and penalties. I want McCarthy back in until his fragile glass body cant take anymore and he utimately shatters because yeah maybe he is injury prone but atleast he has heart and he always seems to pick up the defense when he is in.
