yep. add that to the fact that many never really ever get a good shot.. because only 32 will be getting a legitimate shot at a time.

In hockey, there are alternatives to build up experience for players.. AHL, ECHL, European leagues.
In the NFL, if you aren't a starting QB.. you ride the bench.. and if you don't succeed in limited action, you are done. There is nowhere to go. you can go to the CFL.. but once you go there, you rarely come back.

That is one of the biggest problems I find with the NFL, and football in general. It's too dangerous to do any kind of minor league.

There were players that came out of NFL Europe. Brad Johnson was probably the most famous example. Jay Fiedler and John Kitna also came through there.

NFLE was actually a good idea..

Them getting rid of it basically ensures that Football is basically a N.American sport only. It will never have the universal appeal that hockey does in northern countries, and soccer does all over the world.

There's no method to predict with 100% accuracy which college qb will be good in the NFL. But there are things to look for, and things to disregard, in evaluating a QB's pro prospects. I'll give a short list here of things I consider to be important and evaluate Matt Leinart's pro prospects based on his college performance.

    1. Completion percentage, yards per attempt, and TDs per attempt against good opponents. Here I look for completion percentages over 60%, YPA over 7.5, and TD per attempt ratios at 1 TD per 15 passing attempts. I'll throw in INTs in here as well. I'm not the developer of such a method, but I've read that these numbers are a good metric for determining NFL success. I'll take what was arguably Leinart's strongest 4 opponents in 2005 (his senior year):
    • USC v. Oregon: Leinart was 23/39 (58.9%), 8.1 YPA, 1 TD 0 INT. Good completion percentage and a good YPA, but 1 TD in 39 attempts isn't good.
    • USC v. Fresno State: 22/33 (66%), 6.1 YPA, 1 TD 0 INT. Again, good completion percentage, but this time an average and not dominant YPA. And 1 TD in 33 attempts isn't what you want from a 1st round pick.
    • USC v. Notre Dame: Leinart was 17/32 (53%), 9.4 YPA, 0 TDs and 2 INTs. Not a good game for him. Great YPA, but poor completion percentage, no TDs in 32 attempts, and 2 INTs.
    • USC v. Texas: Leinart was 29/40 (72.5%), 9.1 YPA, 1 TD and 1 INT. Great completion % and YPA. Again, poor TD output.
If you look at those games, he never had games with multiple TDs. In fact, he had 3 TDs and 4 INTs. He averaged only 1 TD per 36 pass attempts. And that's with an extremely talented team. In my eyes, that automatically wouldn't make him a 1st round pick.

I don't know if Gabbert was a project pick. I seriously think the Jags thought he was good. Gabbert was actually kinda like Leinart (though Leinart was the better college QB), in that he'd have high numbers of attempts and low TDs. And Gabbert also struggled against good competition.

I maintain that there are ways to predict QB success with greater than 50% accuracy.

They missed the diamond in the rough. Never said Brady was obviously going to be an NFL star.

He also lit up alabama twice and his stats are just sick in the sec. Without Johnny Football A & M doesnt when 5 games. Guy wins and makes people play better around him. Bridgewater does not have great stats and plays one of the softest schedule in the country.
