Gruden's off the board, and Hue Jackson is the next Bengals OC. No surprises

but the coach has to get along and be on the same page as the GM. if not, will be major problems. I don't doubt Zimmer will be a very good coach. Just not sure it is here. Webster looking for nice guy like Munchack to work with, it's not Zimmer.

I personally think Roman or Bevell will be the guy. I prefer Roman over Bevell, but I agree with your comment. I think these two are the types of guys he is looking for.

Quinn. I think he is the only true target the titans are looking at.

I definitely agre with your assesment that many people who are blunt can be inflexible in their views. What makes me see Zimmer in a different light is the fact that he has had so much success in more than one place. It's extremely likely that he had to overcome or solve many complex issues when bringing that Bengals D from one of the worst to one of the best. Just the fact that he's gotten so much out of guys like Burfict, Mauluga, Pacman etc strongly suggests to me that the man must have a decent amount of problem solving skills.

So to me there are two possible explanations:

    1. He's more nuanced than he is given credit for and he's just unable to properly display that during the interview process.

    2. He is a rigid, my way or the high way kind of guy and while this might not appeal to GM's but his results verify that "his way" is often the right way.

Who knows though, maybe he demands more control of the franchise than the GM is comfortable allowing him?

I would put my money on the early report of Quinn as HC with Mularkey as OC. Ruston has worked with Quinn. Quinn has workede with Mularkey. I think Ruston would like the idea of bringing in a guy for his first HC job and surrounding him with guys that have previous HC experience.

I would not be upset with Quinn HC, Mularkey OC, and Williams DC. It seems to me that Williams and Quinn play a similar style of attacking 4-3 defense with lots of man coverage in the secondary so they might work well together.

I'm really hoping for Zimmer but my gut tells me you're likely right.

I'm betting on #2. He's proven he knows defenses. He has a very strong opinion on how things are to be done and, if a GM doesn't want to do it his way, he doesn't care enough about being an HC to settle.

Some see it as a "my way or the highway" approach when it's really "if I can't do it the way I believe it's best to do it, I don't want anything to do with it". We've all probably have been in a situation we knew was doomed to fail because of the approach of the person managing it. Some managers want to please everyone in their approach which, IMO, often leads to no one being pleased or the process taking too long to happen because tough decisions can't be made without floating out ideas to gauge reaction.

The other thing might be he's not a "people person" and isn't interested in the public relations aspects of the job. He's not going to enjoy the radio shows, meet-n-greets, etc. You'd think winning would be everything for a coach but, these days, a HC has to do things to keep the fan base excited.

This is all total speculation on my part. I don't know the guy beyond a couple of articles. I do think results matter which is why he's my top candidate.

Redskins hired Jay Gruden as their head coach on a five-year deal.
ESPN's Adam Schefter chimed in by saying "all signs point to Gruden" for the gig. Jon's younger brother had an interview scheduled with the Vikings on Thursday, but that's been put on hold. A source told the Post that Gruden seemed to prefer the Titans, who he previously interviewed with, but Dan Snyder might be making him an offer he can't refuse. It's standard operating procedure for Snyder, who throws bags of monopoly money at coaches and players only to use them as a chew toy. Gruden's stock has somehow not been damaged by the Bengals' three consecutive playoff flameouts.

I guess I wouldn't be mad with Quinn... But i like Zimmer so much more, i would be disappointed. Quinn has only had 1 year as a DC in the NFL, although he has worked for other teams in the NFL he has never been the DC. He also came into a defense that was already great, idk what the hype with this guy is?
