We should not move up one pick for the legendary jimmy G. Why would we? At least 4 QBs will be taken ahead of him so you would use the 26th pick for the 5th QB taken in the draft?

    Mike Kafka
    Steven Mcgee
    Keith O'connel
    Drew Stanton
    Tavaris Jackson
    Andrew Walter
    Cade McNown
    Mike Cherry
    Jim Miller
    Chris weinke
    Dave Ragone
    Stoney Case
    Gino Toretta

All were the 5th QB taken in their respected draft. Total wate of a pick for those teams.

So also was Andy Dalton, Matt Schaub, Marc Bulger(Not until the 6th rd), and David Garrard but common sense tells you not to take that 5th guy too soon.

Then add the odds against a small school QB succeeding it would be totally moronic to take Garopolo in rd 1. Anything earlier than our 2nd rd pick is stupid.

Now before some idiot like Gunny says i hate Garopolo and want to kill his family or that i'm a hater of Italian Americans i have been very consistent here. None of these mid level Qbs have much of a chance to really succeed in the nfl that's just the way it is so people in love with Murray, Mettenburger or this kid just have no clue how the draft has worked in the last 20 years.

Same goes for Mccarron also. I wouldn't use a 1st rd pick on him either.

How would we be moving up one spot? I was responding to people saying take him at 11 and what I'd like to see happen with Cleveland IF we really liked him.
I'd take him at 26 over taking him at 11, plus picking up extra picks in doing so. I agree, I think 11 is too early and Houston or Jax could take him before us in the 2nd so if you could swing a deal to move down, get extra picks then I would take him later in rd 1, again IF that's who we want.

    that is very true.

Every year, there are boatloads of people who fall in love with 2nd-5th round QBs.. and they just almost never pan out. People can blurt out the exception to the rule.. but that doesn't make it likely to work.

Value shopping works for other positions but rarely for Qbs. And once a highly regarded top prospect begins to fall it can be like catching a falling knife. Look at the packers with Brian Brohm who was considered the 2nd best Qb in that draft for a time and then began to drop. The packers took a chance late in rd 2 and got nothing for that pick.

With this logic you better not take a QB unless you get the first pick of them. I don't care when you pick them they are all a crap shoot.

FYI very early in rd 2 has been a source for some very good QBs while later in that rd has been disastrous.

Randall Cunningham, Brett Favre, Boomer Esiason and Keapernick were all taken in the first 10 picks of rd 2. So we are in a good spot.

We did the research on this earlier in the year.

1st round picks at QB have a very high percentage of busting. Well over 50 percent. Up to 70 percent failure, depending on what one's definition of failure is.

But once you get those 1st round QBs, the percentage of success is desperately low. Like "Might as well not even try" percentages, most of the time.

if a team is trying to draft their QB of the future in rounds 3-7... it's a losing bet probably 99 percent of the time. If you're looking for a long term backup.. maybe that could work.

And Favre hardly even played a snap for the Falcons. 4 pass attempts, 2 INT. Total failure of a 2nd round pick for original team (that's all that matters for our purposes.)

Glanville, Favre's original coach said that it would take a plane crash for him to put Favre in the game.
