I think it is getting harder and harder to really evaluate the RBs and how they will translate in the NFL because of the spread/option game in college. I just watched a 5min. highlight video on Carlos Hyde and not a single carry came on a standard handoff with the QB under center. Not even his goal line carries. We all saw first hand how VY helped open up the field for CJ by holding the backside of the defense and in watching these spread option RBs you see the exact same thing. The backside defense is guarding against the QB running leaving nice lanes for the RB. This is great and all, but it is not what the RB is going to be asked to do as a Titan RB. The Carlos Hyde highlight video just looks so totally different from the Eddie George highlight video. Very interesting to see the change in style with 2 backs who are near the same size.
Making too much of this. Didn't stop him from pushing the pile, sneaking thru a lane or falling forward. "Lane" or not, the dude made yards.
Personally if I'm drafting a RB, I want to know that they can run in an offense that is similar to what my team runs. Their is a difference in running the stretch play and knowing how to read your lead blockers be it a fullback or pulling OL compared to running from the spread option. I would rather draft Terrance West who produced big time running in a traditional offense. Shows he can hit the hole hard with good timing. Shows he knows when to bounce it outside. Shows he can power the ball into the end zone following his fullback on short yardage. Can make people miss in the open field. I'm not drafting a RB from a spread option team early in the draft unless that is the style of offense I'm running.
Just don't see how this guy is going under the radar: 1:20 2:11 4:25 Has a ton of power. Can shift. Fast for his size.
He has very quick feet. Might not run the 40yd really fast, but had some of the top 3cone and short shuttle times among RBs. If you draft him you know that you are taking a guy who will not contribute in the passing game. I would be fine with him and Greene as our 1st and 2nd down RBs and then bring in Mccluster as the 3rd down scat back.
