This was one of the most unsexy, boring drafts I can remember. That doesn't mean the players we took won't turn out to be good, but I just can't get excited about this group. The player I'm most excited about is Mettenberger, and since I'm pulling hard for Jake to succeed its hard to even get too excited about him.

    B+

BPA worked out for us in the first round although I would have rather moved down to get Dennard. I don't like Lewan off the field, but no one can deny he's a beast on it.
Sankey is a good addition, first back taken, better prove himself to be the best of the class.
Jones is a monster, he will plug up the run, I think he's going to be a steal.
Williamson- This is why I give it a B+ and not an A-. I think we should have gone safety here and gone after Sunseri from Alabama.
Mettenberger- Steal of the draft, has potential, but with injury concerns as well as mobility issues. However, with a year in hand to learn what Whiz is looking for, he could be the greatest QB out of the draft class.

personally I don't think there is enough choices here

I think it falls somewhere between a and a plus...

like 2 levels above a but 4 levels below a plus....

I went with A- though it's really a toss-up between that and a B+ for me. I went with A- because I'm really not sure we could have done much better considering what was available and what we need.

Lewan may turn out fine. He certainly looked pissed when he got selected by us, but from what I understand he was the best at his position in the draft (even though #2 was also OT). The rape issue seems to be a bunch of bull****, so I'll let that slide for now.

Sankey was the best RB in the draft. So we scored big points there.

    Jones was a good pick.

    Huff was also solid.

Williamson is fine. With Crutches McCarthy and Pouty-Face Brown, might as well have a hard working LB on the team.

Mettenberger - Might as well take a QB in the 6th. He was there. He could turn out good or he could bust, doesn't matter, he's a 6th rounder. A good gamble for a 6th round pick though.

The only thing that annoys me is how everyone (bleacherreport, here, other places) bitches about us not grabbing a QB early. Really? There were no sure things QBs in this draft and Jake Locker has another year left, why put that pressure on him? Jake is already fighting for his job next year, he doesn't need an apparent (I don't think one can really view Wilson or Mettenberger as obvious heirs to the throne) replacement hanging over his head too, with idiotic fans clamoring for the replacement the second he throws an INT.

I dunno, I'm glad we didn't go after a QB early on, I say give Jake another year and see what the QB class next year looks like.

I was kindof curious about value in the draft - looking at who we took - when we took them - and comparing to pre-draft estimates of their value, and based on this metric the Titan's did well with the picks they had. (Data used is from NFL.com draft grades, CBS draft player rankings, and values from a draft trade chart).

Taylor Lewan - projected to go around 8 or 9. We got him at pick 11. From a draft value standpoint, that's worth about 125 extra points on the draft value trade table.

Bishop Sankey - Was drafted about where he was projected. We picked him at 54, and he was projected from 50-55.

DaQuan Jones - At pick 112 this was an excellent value pick. CBS had him valued as the 64th best player, and NFL had him graded as 73 best player. This was a lot of value added here based on draft pick trade value - somewhere between 155 and 200 points. Excellent for a pick this far down.

Marqueston Huff - He was about where you would've expected. CBS had him rated 105, and NFL had him 145.

Avery Williamson - Drafted about where he was projected at 151 - maybe a tad early based on the charts. CBS had him rated 197 and NFL had him rated 145.

Zach Mettenberger - At 178 this was another good value pick. He was projected to go around 125 by CBS and 98 by NFL grade rank. From a draft value standpoint because we pick up a 3rd or 4th round projected player in the 6th. Not bad at all to not lose draft value on what might be a low probability developmental quarterback.

I have data and have looked through some other teams to try and figure out which teams didn't draft for value - for example a team like the Bucs looked like they reached on nearly every single pick. The Bears may have destroyed value by reaching at the top of their board also. The Dolphins looked like they forced a couple o-line picks hurting the pick value. Eagles, Saints, and Seahawks picks also looked like reaches per these comparisons.

Several teams did very well - the Vikings in particular stand out, as do the Raiders and Steelers. If Nix works out the Texans also look good from a value standpoint.

    B-

I bumped it from a C+ to B- because we escaped the gauntlet with no Bama players.

I have warmed up to the Lewan pick... a bit. It is looking better and better as time goes on... Texans front 7 is loaded and we have responded. Usually I can warm up to a pick I hate within hours. This one is taking days.

    Loved the Sankey pick.

I really don't know much about the rest of our picks (aside from Mettenberger), so I can't judge, but from what I have seen and read about them since the draft, I think they were all good picks.

But, of course, I hated that we passed on Murray. I am still assuming he fell that far due to his size, knee concerns, and average arm strength. But you literally heard a Super Bowl winning GM compare him to Drew Brees... I am not expecting him to be that good, but he will surely be better than most of the scrub QBs taken earlier.

As for Mettenberger... since Murray was gone and it was the 6th round where we usually draft August cuts, it was a good pick. Well worth it. I am firmly expecting him to blow, but I can't complain in the 6th round. If we had taken him in the 4th or earlier I would've hated the pick. If anything he can be a backup. And yes, even a 6th round pick spent on a career backup is well worth it too.

Watch Mettenberger end up being a baller, but he continues to be a raging pothead like Josh Gordon and we have to sever the ties. That would be our luck.
