The only plus I see is we'll finally know once and for all who the fastest football players are.

Setting up for future first down/ball tracking.

Which I believe is a needed thing.

The less the refs have to do the better, those idiots constantly get the spot wrong

Would rather see this put in the ball, then used to aid in determining 1st downs and TDs or safeties

Although, I wonder if this data could be used by players and coaches to better prepare for opponents. Maybe DBs could get a better feel for how that weeks matchup runs their routes, and timing to different positions on the field ... probably a reach though lol

It will probably never be a chip in the ball that's used for this. Cameras set up around the stadium that track the movement ball is a more effective system (and the end result is the same).

That's how FIFA's goal line technology works.

Not familiar with soccer at all ... Does that system have limitations? I think one thing that would be hard is the fact that in football you may have multiple people on/around the ball carrier and the ball is not visible.

They use 10 (or so) cameras and the ball is almost never fully obscured, so the system always knows where the ball is.

May not work quite so well in football, however, since guys tuck the ball under their arms all the time.
