    you answered it

its a social responsibility to take your share of the blame and if you are a leader more than your fair share

Romans decimated their own legions for various reasons. Everyone understood that the particular soilders picked were in all probability not responsible for the legions failure, but it was his responsibility to take the punishment

I get that it's always just kinda been "the way it is" but does that make it right? Like I remember HS football when some idiots would fool around during practice and rather than punish those guys, the team got punished together. I get that it was supposed to teach us a team mentality (win or lose together) and accountability and all that good stuff but really it just felt unfair and made you want to kick those guys asses for being stupid. Thanks for indulging me though. Doesn't seem like many are interested in this discussion so I'll kindly let it die.

You punish the team because the team should be making sure individuals don't act a fool.
It should make you step up and say something afterwards. Thats what we did took the team punishment and got the jackass ourselves later

As a coach, this is the exact reason I do those types of punishment. A team, as a whole, should be self-disiplined. If someone is acting stupid, the rest of the team needs to take care of it, not me.

But yeah, my coach did those types of punishments too, and we WOULD beat the tar out of them.

As far as teaching life lessons and all that, I don't know. But for me, the entire point of that is to make the team self-policing.

Also, I did not read any of the other posts so I have no idea what the context of yours is, sorry.

Some of those runs were actually pretty good and he showed the effort and tough running that people on here swear he doesn't have. Ivory looked better though IMO. He's a good back and I really underestimated him.
