i know pre season don't matter but our D looked so flimsy at the point of attack, I liked the sturdy 4 man front. Our big tackles are mediocre to poor, somebody better clog that middle. I feel Casey, Mrtin, Klug etc. are way more suited for 4-3 and i haven't even mentioned the backers. I really hope it works out tho. It's hard for me to picture it right now. O yeh, CB's look atrocious.

Yeah, I sympathize. I was holding out for the 4-3, biggest fear being the conversion to a 3-4 takes too long. I mean, but now that we're doing it, on with it. We'll survive. And I'm sure there's 4-3 fallback looks in Horton's defense, lol, when all else fails (hopefully not).

But I'm excited to see the new looks. Titans have part of the Rooney tree in the organization with Whisenhunt and Horton, and part of the Seahawks in Webster, and Reinfeldt and Dawson before. It's like that Super Bowl where the Seahawks lost, but hopefully much cooler.

Casey will be fine in the 3-4. Martin was not doing that well anyway and may end up being better. Klug is just a speciality player anyway. Hill though actually has looked better than he did all last season.

Also it will take about a quarter of the season to adjust. It is not just the formation it is a different way of playing. More read and react, more man to man, LBs playing closer to the line. You need to give it time.

Yeah, there's more thinking, and then playing, in this defense, for the linebackers especially. There's more BASIC IF-->THEN statements. Guys who can't quickly process what they're seeing will struggle. And then screw us. I know that's some of what we saw this preseason. That plus suckage.

I'm still not worried about our defense. Yes, we looked awful at times with basic tackling, crap like that - However, I trust Horton. Give it time, we need time for a complete defensive scheme transition. No excuse for the piss poor tackling.

Well, it's impossible to determine how long a transition takes so they could be fine in game 1 or not have it the whole year. The way a lot of teams play the 3-4, it is NOT more read and react, but it's a different read and a different reaction. One of our problems has been that one ILB reacts faster then the other with one shooting a gap, while the other ILB is slower and gets sealed off. The rb cuts thru the whole our slower backer didnt get to then cuts off the blocked ILB and you have a 5+yd gain. Both backup ILB's are up and down with this. Sometimes they never even take a step forward trying to figure out their reads and where the ball is and other times they read and react quite well.

There is no guarantee there is more man coverage as a lot of 3-4 d's copied the Steelers 3-4 zone blitz scheme wich uses less man to man. It'll be interesting to see whether we do more zone blitzing or play more man behind the blitzes.

I'll give Horton the benefit of the doubt for a few games in the regular season, but the poor run fits, lack of pass rush and poor tackling are gigantic concerns atm!

I'd expect more zone. Don't know why, though.
