My impression is that the 'oldsters' that are close to retirement(Rogers, Manning, Ben, Brees, and soon Brady), have different attitudes. They are QBs first, and 'stars' second. In fact, they don't seem to even aspire to 'stardom'. Those new QBs mentioned seem to be more interested in their 'greatness' and being gifts to us fans, that they can't seem to learn to their trade. I realize they are all of a newer, different generation, but it could be that they will be the death of the sport, not the wife and kid beaters. Really, does one sit in stands in zero weather if the QB is mediocre and the w/l is below average? We know they don't in Nashville. jmo

There's probably going to be a big gap. Not sure any of you are big soccer fans, but very similar with Ronaldo/Messi (except those 2 still in their primes)..

There will never be another great QB era after Montana/Young/Aikmen/Marino/Kelly.

    Ring any bells?

    Now it's Manning/Brady/Rodgers/Brees

Remember, Brady was a nobody that came out of nowhere.

There will never be a great era like that because the QB position has been so dumbed down. QBs now are micromanaged from control freak coaches. Also the NFL has gone out of their way to make playing QB much easier. No matter how many records the guys today break it will never be as impressive.

Also, you forgot Warren Moon :nono:

Yeah, it's pretty dumb to say that considering every era has had great QBs.

    Great QB's in my time.....

    Joe Montana,John Elway,Steve Young,Warren Moon,Manning,Brady,Brees.

Kurt Warner ....had some down years but when he was on he was epic. his path to the NFL was also epic. Undrafted,Arena Bowl,NFL Europe in 98'. In 99 he won a SB. That win burns but Warner earned it.

Great QB's in my time with issues that make them hard for me to like.....
Favre, Marino (all stats and no reward), Jim Kelly(epic SB choke artist)

    Close but no cigar....
Aikman.....ridiculous supporting cast. Maybe best game manager ever but not great to watch IMO

    Boomer Esiason consistently good.

Phil Simms *he was a good QB but not one of greats. His SB performance was his best game ever though. In his biggest game he was in the zone and it was a special performance.

Rogers is far from great at this point but there time yet.

    Whoa... Brees "isn't even close"???

Shows just how underrated Brees really is.

Brees has been about as good as it gets for the past 10 seasons.

Since being in New Orleans, Drew Brees has done this:

    - Most Yards in the NFL.

    - Most TD Passes in the NFL.

    - Longest Streak of Games w/at least 1 TD Pass.

And I'd say Brees has had worse targets to throw to than either Manning or Brady.

I really, really don't like it when we agree...makes me question myself....but you are right on here. Brady has 3 rings, pantyboy gets a lot of hype and always has because of his skills and the way he runs the team with the media. Sort of like when the media falls in love with a politician.

If you go look at the stats of Wilson and Kap, 2 extremely successful QBs from last year, you'll see you don't need those gaudy numbers to win.

I know its a passing league and all about offense, but they both had excellent defenses - mean, aggressive, tackle well, physical front to back-end, etc...

I don't care how good your offense is, fact is you still need an excellent D if you want to get a ring.
