Best case scenario Jake Locker works out and we can invest in to this crap front-seven.

Mariotta was $ yesterday. Good test for him next week. Winston started slow but I think he'll continue to show he's the real deal. I like Hundley also, but that UCLA OL is gonna make it tough on him this year.

The best I have seen so far far is Jameis Winston. Plays in a pro style offense, is a pocket guy who can run a bit. Has all the physical tools. The character concerns are worrisome. Connor Crook could be a dark horse if he comes out early.

    Guys I am sour on:

Brett Hundley: Looks great against average or worse competition then looks terrible against strong competition and in pressure situations. UCLA's big comeback vs Texas was engineered by the backup -- Rick Neuheisel's son. I doubt it would have happened with Hundley in there. At least from what I have seen of him.

Sean Mannion: Basically a carbon copy of Jake Locker. Big guy with a strong arm who has poor footwork and accuracy. If Locker is unable to become a solid NFL QB then why would Mannion?

Mariotta, Marshall and Petty: The failure rate on QBs coming from these wild spread offenses is very high. For the most part the top QBs in the NFL are coming from pro style offenses. Or in the case of Drew Brees a spread offense that is relatively conservative. So far the best of these spread QBs have been Cam Newton and Colin Kaepernick. Way too risky.

Hypothetical here, say we finish Top-5, which after the Cowboys game i'd say is possible. We have our pick at QB, everything i've seen is either Mariota or Winston - who you taking?

Or wildcard, take the best defensive prospect and hope for Mannion, Cook, Hogan, etc in the 2nd?

I'm on the Mariota train right now. Not sure how he fits in a Whiz offense though

I'm high on Mariota as well, but I think Winston is undraftable. Personally, I think corner is hands down our biggest need.

    Not if Locker walks.

    We go

    1. QB
    2. LB/CB

*If* Locker walks, I am not sold on any of the QBs suspected of going in the first. I refuse to buy into that draft time hype and have people rise up the board because of bull**** potential.

Take the best defensive player available, and look at QBs in the 2-3 round.

If that is your plan you might as well roll with Mett. He has shown flashes. Probably as much as any QB taken before him this year.

I think Mariota has the potential to be special but it is hard to say with QBs coming out of those style offenses.

Plus you have to look at the kind of QB Whiz targets for his system.

It ain't Marcus or Jameis. Arguably that player is already sitting on the bench.

They might already know what they have behind Locker.

Not to sound TR-ish or anything...

No, I am fairly optimistic about Mett, but I am not going to suck this guys dick just because he had a good preseason. With how awful our pass defense has been, and how poor our depth is there, corner needs to be addressed, and early. Not to mention we need an actual NT and a physical linebacker would be nice.

Essentially, what we need on defense, is another playmaker on defense because right now all we have is Casey.
