Gut the thing is that at this point trotting out any of our QB's is in essence taking a huge risk.

Jake has proven to be wildly inconsistent and can straight up lose games for you. Charlie is a career back up who has shown nothing special when he has gotten his chance in the past. In fact he's looked downright horrible. Mett is a rookie with an iffy knee whose only NFL experience is against as you say 2nd or 3rd string players.

All these guys have bruises and short comings and that's exactly why starting Mett makes sense to me. Can Mett go out there and throw 2-3 picks or lose 2 fumbles from being in the pocket too long? Absolutely, but so can either of the other two. There is no "con" that anyone can point to about Mett that wouldn't apply to Jake. The difference in all this is that with Mett we don't yet know what his positives can be. So, knowing that when it comes to winning we're taking a huge risk with whoever is at QB why not go with the guy who hasn't proved he sucks ass already. Mett may be unproven but the other two have already proven they suck. Why not put in the only one of the 3 who might actually have a future here?

What drives me nuts about this conversation is that we're treating it as if we have a capable starter and back up when both their histories suggest otherwise. Jake has a decent game 3 out of every 10 games and Charlie's rate of good games is even worse (best career game was against St.Louis in 2010 22/36 192 yards, 1 TD, 5.3 yards per attempt.

C'mon man. Starting two "veterans" we KNOW suck because the young talented guy with upside MIGHT suck isn't conservative; it's retarded. Don't even get me started on that word "veteran".

^ To add to this, it would be different if Mettenberger had just flat out sucked in the preseason. But he actually showed a lot of promise. Yeah, he made some mistakes but that's to be expected from a rookie. I know people will say "it's only preseason, he was playing against backups" and that's very true. But still, for a kid in his first real live NFL action I was impressed overall.

We know what we have in Jake. He's extremely up and down with more down than up. We know what we have in CBJ. He's strictly a backup QB who's been kicked around the league for 9 years and only has 4 career starts. While Mettenberger is pretty much a complete unknown at this point. Maybe he's worse than Rusty Smith. Maybe he's the next Tom Brady. Only one way to find out.

I realize the chances are he's closer to Rusty Smith than Tom Brady. But I'm tired of people acting like there's zero chance he could be better than Locker just because he was a 6th round pick. Without the knee injury and off-the-field stuff he's at least a 3rd round pick IMO.

Absolutely right, but I think about this in the eyes of the coaches. There is just no way they start Mett over CW. Politically speaking he will get the nod first. Why?

-We aren't in full desperation mode yet
-We haven't given up on Locker yet
-We just need a plug in play for 1 game

Met gets the chance once all those three things change, unfortunately.

The other thing about Mett is during the pre season some (Not all), but some of his picks/bad plays were really messed up circumstances. Like a pass hitting the TE, TE gets hit, ball pops out, and falls into the hands of a defender still laying on the ground after hitting the TE. Messed up! I remember thinking, how the heck does that happen??!! Only to the Titans! LOL.

I think CBJ will throw lots of short passes and try to be a game manager. Hopefully he comes out and plays like McCown did for the Bears last year! I don't expect it, but would love to see it!

I would be more excited to see Mett get the start to see what he actually has against starters. However, I understand without a lot of prep that is not going to happen. I do really hope that the team is starting to give him that prep though. It would be a mistake not to know by the end of the year if Mett has what it takes to lead this team. That is if Jake doesn't pull off some miraculous turn around.

This team needs to focus on defense. Build it and then worry about the offense. Jake is not the answer, CW has not started a game since 2010 so not sure why everyone acts like we need a guy with experience. (more media than this forum). Not expecting anything less than a blowout so another worry free game.
