I've been advocating this as well. With the new rookie pay scale, teams aren't handcuffed to a high draft pick for 4-5 years as they used to be. You can afford to take 2 QBs high in a short period of time. Yes you will have wasted one of those picks but IF you find a franchise QB who really gives a f***?

The only reason I can think of that more teams don't do this is they want their pick to think the team believes in them 100% and don't want them looking over their shoulder. But IMO I don't want my QB to be afraid of a little competition. The great ones will thrive in that kind of situation.

First, we need to play people who give us our best chance to win.

    Right now, I'd go with...

    QB Locker
RB Sankey, Greene, McCluster (for special plays/formations/mismatches)
    WR Wright, Washington, Hunter
    TE Walker, Thompson, Stevens
    LT Roos
    LG Lewan
    OC Schwenke
    RG Warmack
    RT Oher

Frankly, there are issues going on and they are in every facet of the team. QB play hasn't been good, wr play hasn't been good, pass protection has been poor (both OL and RB). The only things we've done well at are run the ball and throwing to Walker. While I normally wouldn't start Sankey (he's been in on some pass pro breakdowns), I would start pounding the rock too! Control the ball, control the clock and try and stay in 3rd and short. A shocking stat I saw during the game is that we had not converted on a single 3rd and 10+. So keep 3rd down manageable and try to make a high percentage of our throws out of playaction. Also, throw more WR screens and bubble screens. Use Wright/McC on Jet Sweeps ala Seattle. Use McC on bubble screens or quick motion out of the backfield.

Additionally, I'd put every player on notice. Your job is at stake. From QB to the LS, everyone needs to play well or it will be next man up. I inserted Lewan for Levitre but I could just as easily put him at RT. I'd start Wright but don't have an obvious option as a #2 as Hunter and Wash have been disappointing to say the least. And McCluster would be my 3rd down back except for 3rd and 1...then Green comes in and pounds it. Also, I'd look at some spread/option plays with Jake. Not to run it a lot, but to have it for big downs and to keep the defense honest!

    On Defense...

    DL Same
    LB Same
    CB's Same
    FS Wilson
    SS Same

The big change here is Griff sitting in favor of Wilson. Griff is blowing tackles when he's put in position to make a play and that can't continue. Brown being injured depletes our option next to Woodyard, but our run fits were much better against the Colts. Still I would see if Ayers can handle ILB and get Williams reps. Best of Gooden, Williamson and Ayers plays.

I like our matchup sub packages and that we bring in Klug for pass rush, but we are not getting much from our OLB's. We need to blitz less to drop more in coverage and when we do blitz, blitz smarter, not more. More nickel and CB blitzes, less full house blitzes though they have their place. Since Klug and Casey are our primary pass rushers, bring a 4th rusher from Casey's side or match him against the OC and get him into one v one rushes.

Lastly, drill the CB's on looking for the ball after you turn to run. On that 28yd TD catch against BWW, he had pretty good coverage, but he didn't look for the ball until it was too late because he was watching Wayne. I saw the same play attempted by the Bears against GB but the GB CB made a play on the ball because as soon as the WR made him turn and run, he immediately looked back and saw the ball so he could make a play on it.

Replace our special teams players who are not performing. Maybe BWW was tired from the defense being on the field for 42mins, but you can't let Indy's gunner get 5-10yds past you. There can be no return!!! And we can't allow a first half onside kick...that's ridiculous!

This team needs a spark and a kick in the butt. We don't need Justin Hunter out-jumping double or triple coverage and making a super spectacular catch, we just need him to catch the ball when it hits him in both hands. We are not suffering from players not making fantastical plays, we are messing up normal plays. Woodyard catching an INT thrown to him is an example of the plays we SHOULD be making. Not fumbling the ball when no one hits you or not catching a ball that hits you in the hands and deflecting it for an INT are plays we can't make. I'm not picking on just the WR's as we have missed plays by a lot of units on the team.

Everyone needs to step up their game and making a couple of changes to the starting lineups will help! It puts everyone on notice!

What about Osweiler vs Mett as competition for next season?

Too early to speculate really because who knows what the market for Osweiler will be. If cheap though...

Jake locker for tommy Brady? Sure

Honestly who are you talking about tho.

At this point I'd just start the guy with least experience and let him sink or rise to the occasion.

If Denver is willing to unload him knowing Peyton is 55 years old then I'd take that as a sign that he's probably not starter material.

I think teams don't do this because they'll be too quick to pull the trigger if one QB has one or two bad games.
No QB is going to be awesome from the beginning and they're going to make mistakes, what if you pull your franchise QB for a Jake Locker because he had 2 bad games early on?

I think the HC needs to be smart and patient enough to not let 2 games force him into a QB switch. I'm not advocating you play QB carousel. You'd want to let there be an open competition in camp and then your guy is your guy until he gets injured or proves he simply doesn't have it.

E.G. If we would've drafted Bridgewater (or whoever) this year we very easily could've carried both contracts. And now that Jake is hurt and terrible we could be rolling with a guy with some real upside and who has serious potential to be a legitimate stud rather than Clipboard Jesus.

I can see the other side of it as well though. I'm not saying it's the strategy every team should go with I'm just saying it's possible and, to me at least, doesn't seem like a terrible way of going about your search for a franchise QB. The whole process is a crapshoot and the odds are stacked against you anyway. Why not take a shot say every 2 years instead of every 4-5? That's my thinking at least.
