I look at franchise QB's as guys with very high football IQ's, and don't necessarily have the absolute best QB skills. Look at Peyton, Brees, Luck, and some of the other top QB's, they have lots of football smarts but aren't the most athletic. I'll take a QB that stands in the pocket and hits receivers all day over an average throwing, running QB any day.

Eli Manning has more 4th quarter comebacks than Drew Brees, where does Baby Manning rank?

Easy answer and in a nutshell...

A reliable, accurate, and clutch leader who can start for consecutive years & win, and shows that he can carry his team whenever needed.

It really is tough to define. There are so many other factors that go into a particular QB's success other than solely individual talent. I guess if I were a GM trying to decide if someone was "the guy" I'd ask myself a few questions:

    - Do you trust this guy to go out there and lead your team every week?
    - Can you count on this guy to win you games and not just to not lose them?
    - Can you honestly see this guy winning a Super Bowl?
    - Would it be very difficult to find a better option at the position?

If you can answer yes to all of those questions then I think you've got you a franchise QB.

I don't think that's entirely true. He's thrown for multiple TDs in 3 of their 4 wins. I don't think you can fault a guy for having a successful run game.

Romo is definitely prone to the boneheaded play. But let's be real, it's unfair to lay their failures over the years at his feet. That is probably one of the most horribly run franchise's in the league over the past decade or so.

To me a franchise QB is a guy who has the ability to always keep your team in games. The type that know matter what with him you have a shot. Be it coming from behind, rallying your team, blowing teams out. Has that clutch factor, can make all the throws, is a guy that your offense and team respects and plays hard for.

Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning are the ultimate franchise QBs in my eyes.

I'd probably lean towards saying the second group are not currently franchise QBs.

Guys like Foles, Kaepernick, and Dalton could end up in the mix with some improvement and playoff wins/championships.

I think Kaep a dalton are always just good but not franchise QBs. Foles and Cam are the next two IMO to become franchise guys.
