I was recently thinking about Jameis Winston. The guy has all the talent in the world but is constantly in trouble. Which brought to mind two other QBs; Vince Young and Cam Newton.

Cam was kicked off the Florida football team for stealing a computer. He had to go play JuCo ball for a year before signing to play with Auburn. While at Auburn there were tons of questions circulating as to whether he or his Dad took money to play at AU. But since entering the NFL, he has been a great QB for the Panthers and is playing the best football of his career this year, and is a franchise QB.

VY had all the talent in the world. He was extremely athletic and played one of the best games I've ever seen a QB play in the National Championship game. But he was a head case and didn't have a particularly strong work ethic. When things got tough in the NFL he wasn't mentally tough enough to handle it.

So my question to you is, who is Jameis Winston more like? Are the off the field issues something that can be fixed and can he mature like Cam did and turn into a franchise QB? Or is he more like VY; constantly in trouble, never going to mature, and not mentally tough?

Only time will tell. He could be even better than Cam if he gets his s*** straight. Or he could be even dumber and more useless than VY if he doesn't.

I dont dislike Jameis because of his legal troubles, I dislike like him because I cant trust him, and because he's possibly the dumbest prospect coming out this draft. And thats even IF he comes out. Ive heard plenty of people around the NFL suggest he stays another year to improve his game and image.

I would say Cam ... VY never really got into trouble in college did he? I don't remember thinking that would be an issue with him when he was drafted.

The biggest knock on VY coming out was this throwing motion. Aside from that, I think most people thought pretty highly of him as a player/leader.

It wasn't until he was here in TN, and things started not going his way, did we start to realize the truth ... that VY was very weak mentally (not to be read as dumb). As others have said, this guys is just a head case and couldn't handle the pressure.

Sure VY was dumb too, but even still I saw improvement in his game. By his final year here, there was marked improvement in his passing game. The only thing that really held VY back was his mental weaknesses.

Cam on the other hand had more issues as far as legal concerns (similar to Jameis) ... stealing, possibly taking money against the NCAA rules, etc. But through all of that controversy, Cam still shined in college. He was not mentally weak like VY was. VY probably would've committed suicide if he had to endure all that Jameis has. But Jameis seems relatively unaffected by it.

I am not advocating taking him if we have the chance (nor am I against it, I won't make that decision until we know our draft status and his draft status) ... But I do think his attitude is more similar to Cam than VY

I'm sure he will join all the other great FSU passers to come out recently.

I'm finally giving in on Winston, that's it. After watching the revolving door of mediocre to terrible QB play for the last decade, I can't take it anymore. I want a real franchise QB. If we're gunna throw a top 5 pick at QB, I'd rather pick a can't miss talent with some character concerns than a player with great personality and questionable talent. And I know Winston gets a bad wrap, but what has he done really?

Rape case: the case was dropped by the girl, and it's clear she was only trying to extort money from the school/Winston. You see this happening to more and more athletes now. The freshman QB from UF, is the most recent.

The crab legs: I'll give you this one, no way around it. But isn't stealing a computer (Cam) worse than stealing a pound of Crab legs. He hasn't been in trouble like this since then.

The table screaming drama: It was stupid that this was a headline story to begin with!! All the kids are saying this now A days as a joke. Still don't understand why he was crucified.

The jersey stuff: First let me start off by saying F the NCAA. No bigger joke of corporation than them. I understand the view point of a rule is a rule, but I'll never say a negative word about a kid making money off his own likeness. Dont hear anything negative said about Gurley on here.

So long story short: Winston will be a franchise QB and I'm willing to overlook some small character issues if that means ending the decade long terrible QB play.

One thing I failed to mention about Jameis is that he is a true leader. If you watched the FSU vs ND game this week, you saw him getting in the face of his teammates when they messed up and everyone was commenting how he was the true leader of the team. That was one thing I think VY lacked. He was not a leader. He didn't lead by example at all.

The way I see it, I just want to win. I can deal with off the field issues as long as it doesn't effect their play on the field. And if you're honest, most of the time off the field issues don't effect their play. It's more of a distraction more than anything else because coaches and teammates have to answer questions about it.

I think Jameis is hands down the best QB talent since Luck. He has an absolute cannon for an arm, is accurate and is crazy athletic and can scramble. I would be beside myself excited if we drafted him. But IMO, he doesn't fit what Whis likes in a QB. If you're looking at this draft Connor Cook from Michigan St. is the Whisenhunt type of QB. Tall, great arm, accurate. I just want a franchise QB no matter who it is!

Another magnet for controversy - and the the type of distraction that should never be drafted by the likes of The Titans ever again..
    No thanks.
