I think that our entire startinging lineup should consist of players 26 and under. Let's just put some young enthusiastic players on the field.

Our offense is all under 26 now...well with the exception of levitre and other.

Well, if it's time to trim the fat and anyone will give us anything for them.

    Trade...
Nate Washington (bump up Hagans and sign Preston)
Michael Griffin (Wilson starts, Huff and Staff are gonna play a lot)
LeVitre (next man up, sign another OL who can backup)
Wembley (Phillips starts, Gooden backs up, sign another LB)
Shonne Greene (Sankey starts with McCluster spelling him, Battle short yardage)
Jake Locker (Zac starting and CW to backup and Locker gone next year)

All of the above would be candidates as they either are making too much money for their performance, are playing below avg, or we already know they won't be hear next season and they won't hurt us too much by not starting. LeVitre and Griff are probably the hardest to trade given their very high salaries and mediocre performance.

And it kills your cap and reputation to sign guys and then give them their walking papers so quickly. Then again, you have little cred when you sign Griff to a huge contract coming off a bad year!

I can see the logic from the above moves. I hear you on the "what can we get" argument, but bottom line is that, if we are cutting these folks in the offseason anyway, anything is better than nothing and injuries on other teams during potential playoff runs can temporarily elevate some of these players' "value" this season (even Levitre and Griff IMO).

I think that, from a reputation perspective, can get a mulligan for this due to the change in coaching and defensive scheme. However, if we also unload Webster in the offseason we really can get a mulligan here.

Unfortunately the cap is what it is....we cannot have "do overs" on contractual agreements. We can only move forward from them IMO.

Griff and Levitre would hurt our cap short term (this year and next) if they were to be traded or cut in the near term. But there is no point in trading Levitre if we can't get anything for him as he is simply overpaid with inconsistent performance and we have no one really waiting in the wings. Griff DOES have viable replacement/upgrade available to play now but the main issue is both players are drastically overpaid for their production. They are paid like star players and simply don't have that performance level.

Realistically, one or both are likely to be on the team next year due to their contracts. And keep in mind we will acquire a good chunk of cap room cutting others and we don't have a franchise QB's salary to take into account yet.

But at this point, if we can get something decent and trim our cap at the same time, I'm for it. And in some of these cases, we wouldn't even notice a difference potentially. But if they are playing to get a better idea of what we have for next season, even a dip in play to see what the younger players can do is useful though not for our W-L record.

Those of you wanting to tank for Mariota or Winston may get your wish. Or we may have the good fortune of finding that Met is the real deal.

Mariota doesn't have to make an NFL throw (not where but against tight coverage) 95% of the time. Due to their system and personal, they tend to get a lot of players so wide open he can lob it or throw it a bit behind or what have you. He won't have that luxury in the NFL. Just ask the Blaine Gabbert's how their high completion % in college translates into NFL success when you aren't throwing against NFL type coverage 90% of the time.

The flip side is that I have seen Mariota make some perfect throws against tight coverage so he can do it, but Locker can too. Being able to get a basketball in the hoop everyone in a while does not make you an NBA player. So the question with Mariota and all young qb's is the consistency in which they can drop, read, keep their mechanics together and deliver an accurate ball. Mariota has the size speed and stats teams will drool over, but can he make 20-25 accurate throws against tight coverage when he doesn't even have to make one of those throws a game.

He will be a huge boom or bust player! He has the talent to be better than Luck but you knew a lot more about Luck's consistency (and could therefore project him better).

Watch Sean Mannion against Standford today. Having a down year but is the best pocket passer in this draft class. Nice clean mechanics and footwork.
