Bottom line is Zach Mettenberger is way more accurate throwing and reading defenses. Locker too many times would overthrow, underthrow or completely thow passes off target not once but often. Throw in the fact that the offense has to be dumbed down for Locker to understand not to mention the fact that Locker can't stay healthy it is clear it is time to move on. Mettenberger will be able to go out and run the offense the way the coaches want it run. Mettenberger will also go out and complete most of the passes that should be completed and also be able to see the whole field and make plays where he sees weaknesses in the defense something Locker was never able to do consistently. There were a couple of occassions during the preseason that Mett hooked up with Hunter on very long passes that either went for a TD or great field position. I have a feeling Delanie Walker and Justin Hunter are going to be very big targets for Mett and both will be much happier with an accurate passer throwing the passes to them and not over their head.

Jake has strengths? I was unaware.

Jake's issues are his accuracy and durability. Arguably the two most important attributes for a QB. It doesn't matter what system Jake plays in if he can't hit open receivers or stay healthy. Jake was never NFL material. Charlie is a perennial backup for a reason. He has a borderline NFL skill set. There in lies the issue. Two QB's both whom are hardly NFL material trying to run an offense is why we have issues.

Jake can hit stationary targets ok but I can't ever remember seeing him throw guys open like very good to elite QB's do. He just doesn't have that anticipation or ball location ability that Mett has already shown he has. He didn't even in college we just fell in love with his intangibles.

I understand that and i never said it was caused by him being wreckless. His decision making when he left the pocket hasn't changed in terms of sliding. Your basically saying the samething i said but in your own words.

I would agree that Mett is a more accurate passer but his ability to read defenses in the NFL is unknown (and thats giving him the benefit of the doubt on his one brief outing where he sailed a pass and it got intercepted). How do you know the defense was 'dumbed down' for Locker? Please provide a quote.

It seems a little disingenuous to blast Locker when he's already been removed as a starter and to anoint Mett with things you can't know (like he reads defenses better, can run the entire offense the way the coaches want). In addition, your assumption he will throw like he did in the pre-season is premature. In the pre-season, no one is game planning for him or anyone else so they are running basic coverages. Also, Hunter was going against 2nd and 3rd string NFL cg's...not first string guys. And a good chunk of our 'QB' problems have had to do with our protection and our WR's (who sometimes don't get open, turn well thrown deep passes into INT's, and dropped at least 3 TD passes). That's not to say the QB's haven't had problems too...they have. But blaming everything on the QB's is not seeing the big picture.

I am excited to see what Met can do and hopefully him starting elicits a spark and the whole team plays better...because that's what we need.

Whisenhunt came out and stated a few weeks again that he had to simplify the offense for everyone.

Part or all or none of the reason the QB's have been holding onto the ball too long is that the WR's have not been running their routes at the right depth or not getting away from man coverage. I saw a play where we used motion to get Hunter (in the slot) lined up on a LB or S...which should be a total mismatch for us. But Hunter couldn't beat the press coverage. This is one of the reasons you hear Whiz talking about players needing to play with a sense of urgency.

But there are 2 reasons QB's hold the ball. One is they are confused and or can't figure out the defense so they don't know where to go with the ball. The second is the WR's are not open. Keep this in mind.

I think Hunter needs the risk of being"shown up" to motivate him to perform. Hence the JAG Jersey. With our poor play at QB, and the resulting poor play and lack of motivation from the WR corps as a whole, Justin has no one pushing him to be anything other than JAG.
Justin's a younger guy, at heart, than most IMHO. I thing this boat will right itself with Mett chucking the rock and leading the way with his charisma and confidence.

alot of Mettenberger haters often post this link to poke fun at him:

    a. you have to be drunk white girl blind not to notice the ENTIRE OFFENSIVE LINE was not playing.. they were down by 21 with 2mins to go.. they were frustrated and tired of getting beat -- and left Zach out to dry.. and b. Zach got up on that injury under his own strength and walked down the field.. and was so mad at his OLine, and entire team that he wouldn't even talk to Les or the trainers.... what does this tell us??... It tells us he's a winner!... He strives to be a winner!!... And when he doesn't, he holds everybody accountable including himself (when everyone is already thinking it) .... he will be this 'LIGHT A FIRE' guy we need..... the end of the that drive and the walk off the field proves it...
