Initially I was a little hesitant to throw him in against Watt and Clowney for his first start without much prep time but looking back I'm pleasantly surprised with how he looked. While he wasn't perfect it didn't seem like he was out of place or overwhelmed either. Now we have the bye week to get him prepared for his next start and I think he'll be much better after spending more time preparing and building chemistry with the WR's.

I have hopes that he can develope into a good quality QB for our team, that way we won't have to waste a first round pick on another QB next year.

Thats a solid write up, but fans should be happy the kid wasn't abysmal how many many other rookie QB's are in their 1st starts.

If Mett looked like Ryan Leaf on Sunday I'd be worried, but he didn't. He looked poised and ready for action. The game wasn't too big for him. Thats encouraging to me.

Compared to McNair, Young, and Locker Mettenberger looked like the best one of the bunch in their 1sts starts. So again, Im encouraged to see him build on that and become something we've lacked for over a decade.

Who would trade Lewan/Sankey for Derek Carr right now?

I could manage this team 10x's better. Sh*t is embarrassing.

But I was surprised by Mettenberger in his first start- more by what he showed- not his stats. Poise, velocity/touch (the 2 things that MAKE qb's that's always overlooked), looked the part.

So I just saw a tweet from Wyatt about Mett adressing the penalties and saying "the days of 'my bad' are over" ... anyone have more context around this quote? (like the actual interview)

Is Mett trying to step up and take some leadership and hold his team accountable here?

Anyone ever think about Billy Volek and wonder how things would of turned out?

in fairness the braindead penalties did not help Mettenberger any at all

the other 10 guys are supposed to step their play up to help the rookie QB not whatever that was on sunday.

McMVP was the last Titan rookie QB to win their first start, but it was a differnet era and he was 'groomed' for nearly 2 years before that start

We clearly should have kept Volek and moved on from McNair. He of course would not be our QB now, but who knows how differently things would have turned out. Having him in 2008 would have been amazing.

Meh. Billy Volek was a scrub for so many years. I know he had some monster games, but he was never more than a backup in my eyes. Any time he played I was always worried.
