Fair enough. You make a good case. I haven't yet decided if I think any QBs in this draft are worthy of a top-10 pick. It's pretty early to be making that decision.

And, like I said, I don't think any of us are qualified to make it anyhow.

Thats not true ... lets look at the actual players drafted (forget this past draft ... too soon to make any judgements)

Basically I am labeling anyone that won't amount to a franchise QB (even though its hard to say a 7th round QB is a bust just because he doesn't turn into a Franchise QB)

    2013:

EJ Manuel - Looks like bust
    Geno Smith - Bust
    Mike Glennon - Bust
    Matt Barkley- Bust
    Ryan Nassib - bust
    Tyler Wilson - Bust
    Landry Jones- Bust
    Brad Sorensen- Bust
    Zac Dysert- Bust
    BJ Daniels - Bust

    2012:

    Andrew Luck - Hit
    RGIII - not sure yet
Ryan Tannehill - not sure yet
    Brandon Weedon - Bust
    Brock Osweiler - Bust
    Russell Wilson - Hit
    Nick Foles - Hit

    Kirk Cousins - Bust
    Ryan Lindley - Bust
    BJ Coleman - Bust
    Chandler Harnish - bust

    2011:

    Cam Newton - Hit
    Jake Locker - Bust
    Blaine Gabbert - Bust
    Christian Ponder - Bust
    Andy Dalton - Hit
    Colin Kaepernick - Hit

    Ryan Mallet - Bust
    Ricky Stanzi - Bust
    TJ Yates - Bust
    Nathan Enderle - Bust
    Tyrod Taylor - Bust
    Greg McElroy - Bust

    2010:

    Sam Bradford - Bust
    Tim Tebow - MAJOR BUST
    Jimmy Clausen - Bust
Colt McCoy - Not sure yet (looked good in some spot starts)
    Mike Kafka - Bust
    John Skelton - bust
    Jonathan Crompton - Bust
    Rust Smith - Bust lol
    Dan Lefevour - Bust
    Joe Webb - Bust
    Tony Pike - Buest
    LEvi Brown - Bust
    Sean Canfield - bust
    Zac Robinson - bust

    2009:

    Matt Stafford - Hit
    Mark Sanchez - Bust
    Josh Freeman - Bust
    Pat White - Bust
    Stephen McGee - Bust
    Rhett Bomar - Bust
    Nate Davis - Bust
    Tom Brandstater - Bust
    Mike Teel - Bust
    Keith Null - Bust
    Curtis Painter - Bust

Basically in the past 5 years, I only count 7 'hits' at QB ... only 3 were taken in the top 10

Yes the chance of you hitting on a QB after the 1st round significantly decreases. However, in rent years that trend has changed.

College football has transformed into a spread pass happy league making it harder to evaluate the prospects. I have much more preference to pro-style quarterbacks and think Mett has a good chance of being our guy. It's also why I like Sean Mannion in this years draft class as a 2nd day prospect comes from a pro-style offense and has great mechanics.

Do we know the success rate of those who come out of a pro style offense vs those QBs that dont?

A guy named Frank Ryan once went 12 of 13 for 202 yards and five touchdowns, he was a 5th rounder.

    Just saying.

I don't want to spend two picks unless they are late. Having a franchise qb is a dream of every franchise, but it takes a solid team all the way around to win.

Even manning only has one ring.

If we ignore the rest of the team and miss on both, we're even more screwed. Plus if we pick one in the first or second, he's going to get a real shot. If Mett bombs out then he is out. The high Draft pick will get a couple years.

Round 6 and 7 is the only round we should be drafting a QB if we found our franchise QB.

Sure he only has the 1 ring, but he's played in 3 Super Bowls. if you dont have a QB you dont have anything. QB is the one spot Id be more than happy wasting draft picks on til we find the right guy, its just too important a job not to have a good player at.

If Mett turns out to show he is a franchise QB and Lewan proves to be our future LT then it would do wonders for giving us a chance to really turn things around quickly.

It would pretty much be a GMs dream to have a young franchise QB and LT while having a bunch of cap space and a top 10 draft pick.
