I think he is decent. I think the franchise is toxic and we don't get what we should out of players.

Can we please be clear that Webster was VP of player personnel in 2009-2010 before taking over as GM. He had his hand in all the latter "Reinfeldt" moves. Everyone (especially the media) like to put the lack of talent at MR's feet but Webster was almost equally culpable in the 09, 10 years.

Delanie Walker. That is about the only quality signing I can think of with Webster's mark. George Wilson, Potoitua (sp?) and Pollard were OK signings.

Those you mention above were pretty bad. His early round drafts have been chit. Lewan looks to be decent at #11. Sankey I'm not sold on as anything special yet. The others from '14 (Williamson, D Jones) I need to see consistency.

My point is that Webster has been just as chitty as MR IMO. But MR was fired so it is better for morale to put it all on the fired guy. The OL's performance this second half will be a testament to Webster's skill as a GM.

The problem with firing anyone is Tommy Smith doesn't know football. I don't trust him to make a good hire for any position that may come available.

Webster will be here as long as Whisenhunt is. The new GM will want to bring in "his guy". Give Whisenhunt and Webster a chance to blow this team up and see what they can do. If after all that they still fail.. See ya!

I think if Webster was fired one of his lackeys would most likely be promoted so no improvement. I say that due to the point made above, Tommy Smith knows nothing of football. He does know business though. Maybe he would be smart enough to do what many teams have done recently and hire an independent consulting firm to find the best candidate. I see that as one way we may actually end up with a decent GM in the future. If its left to Tommy it will probably be some no talent guy already sitting in the FO riding Webster's coat tail. That would be scary.

I made the same point a while back about MR's drafts. Several people are saying Webster is suffering through MR's problems. I disagree, Webster was highly involved in MR's picks and is just as guilty. They unbelievably looked past the need for a pass rusher for years. Now we are still there.

Honestly, I could see the Jets turning it around quickly. I feel like after this season, Rex & management will be gone. They'll go get a new head coach, gm, etc. Draft a QB in the Top-5 (probably Mariota) to pair with a solid (not great D). If Mariota is a hit, they'll be good here very soon.

Can Mariota even play under center? The 4 games Ive seen of him he's always standing up.

No better than RG3 could coming out of Baylor. From what i've seen Mariota has a good head on his shoulders, good leader, hard worker, and is a total film rat -- he'll figure it out. Picture Mariota as a mix between a healthy RG3 & Kaepernick.

He'll be legit, plus will have Decker, Kerley, and Harvin to throw to as a rook if he landed in NY - that's a solid core.

Personally Im sick of the projects and unknown questions many prospects bring. I want proven, been there done that players from now on. Thats why Im anxious to see more of Mettenberger, the college film showed him doing NFL stuff already then. Im really hoping we dont have to go down the Mariota or Winston roads.

Please God let Mett be the one...

I do not want Winston at all, but i'd be thrilled with Mariota. Yes, there's question marks, but he has a legit chance to be a superstar. There is never a proven promised superstar, except like once every 5 years... i.e. Andrew Luck.

I'm with you though, i'm praying Mettenberger shows enough that he can be our starting QB of the future. Remember, this guy was projected 2nd-3rd round before injury/diluted drug test. If he shows up enough that we can skip QB in the first 3 rounds, we can hopefully beef up that defense.

Sounds about right. Makes sense why he hired one of his own as the head coach.
