The same logic is used when comparing past seasons regardless if it is conferences or teams. Which carries more relevance for Tennessee? How Tennessee performed last year or the fact that a cross-division rival in Alabama won the championship in 2012? To say the latter is more relevant is absurd.

I think you are mistaking high powered offenses for poor defenses. The Big 12 held Bama, Auburn, and Tennessee below each of their points scored averages for the season.

Take a look at the rankings for points given up by some of those tough SEC teams...

    South Carolina - 106th
    TAMU - 70th
    UT - 52nd
    Auburn - 47th
    Arkansas - 49th
    Vandy - 101st

Now take at some of those weak Big 12 defenses...

    TCU - 31st
    Baylor - 20th
    K-State - 22nd

Yes to be fair the SEC has solid defenses like Bama, LSU, and Ole Miss and the Big 12 has some abysmal defenses like TTU, Iowa St, and KU but you can't just say one conference doesn't play defense when every conference has some weak defenses. SEC defenses just happen to have the luxury of not having to play against quality QBs in conference this year.

No, this is mostly just said about Bama in those two games, primarily because Bama had their eyes solely on a(nother) NC those years... weren't too interested in meaningless Bowl Games that might as well have been NCs for their opponents.

Double standard bulls**t. UF said the same thing about Louisville. If they aren't motivated it sounds like the SEC lacks character.

I wouldn't say that about UF. I wouldn't say that about any of the SEC teams that got beat in their bowl games outside of Bama the past two times it happened.

Ohio State was closer to the BCS Title game than Bama last year (closer since they actually made it to their conference title game before losing). I didn't hear that excuse from Ohio State when they lost in the Orange Bowl after that.

Other teams have just as big of let downs, it's not unique to Bama but they are the only ones that make excuses about it.

So you're literally taking the worst SEC defenses and comparing them against the top Big 12 defenses. Those "tough SEC teams" shouldn't include Vandy and South Carolina. And if we're just talking defense probably not A&M either, surprised they're only 70th. Oh and...

    Alabama - 2nd
    Ole Miss - 1st
    LSU - 5th
    Missouri - 15th
    Mississippi - 16th

It's easy to say, oh SEC defenses don't have to play top offenses. Considering the top SEC defenses are already uber talented with players. It's not like the Big 12 where they play bend don't break or can't even tackle properly. I also woudn't really count West Virginia or Oklahoma holding down SEC offenses. Considering it was Blake Sims' first start and Oklahoma's opponent being Tennessee. Kansas St vs Auburn is a good point, Kansas St came in very well prepared for them.

Point is, we can play this game all week or even season. I know there's a lot of complaints over SEC bias and hype and I get the frustration. Even I hate watching ESPN because they run everything into the ground and just go for shock value at this point and try to get viewers riled up *cough* Kanell *cough* Bayless. I think a lot of people will have a hard time changing the mindsets of SEC fans until another team or conference starts winning consistently. Both against the SEC and in the national championship. Until then, we're just going to continue to reach for whatever stats and keep playing the "but if" game.

My point is you can't say an entire conference doesn't play defense when they have defenses that rate higher than half of the SEC. They also play much better offenses.

Talking about can't tackle... explain that to South Carolina and TAMU. The difference with those teams and the Big 12 is that SEC teams get undue credit for beating both of them. The entire SEC West inflated rankings started because TAMU beat South Carolina week 1. They jumped from 21 to 9 with that win, then Ole Miss and MSU suddenly have quality wins over a TAMU team that was dominated by LAMonroe. The circular logic that has to be used is ridiculous. It's the garbage in garbage out concept.

    Team A has beat #4, #7, #15, #20 and lost to #5
Team B has beat #16 and #21 and lost to #11.

Why is team B ranked higher?
