What lost us the Ravens game?

I don't care which 5 guys you put on the line, no one can block them for 6-7 seconds. The onus is on the QB to throw the ball. Plays are designed (route depths and reads) to coincide with the depth of the drop. 3 step. 3 step with a gather. 5 step. 5 step with a gather. 7 step. The drops without a gather are designed for the QB to plant and throw at the end of his drop. The gather ones give him that extra .3-.5 seconds before throwing. He has to know who and where his checkdown is and if the cd is not open you throw the ball away rather than take a 10 yard sack. That's just something Mett has to learn and he will.

I completely agree on the refs in that game. Some of the worst officiating I've seen in a long time versus one team.

 

I agree that Mett held the ball longer than he should have in the Baltimore game, but he is not doing that consistently.

Via John Parolin of ESPN Stats & Info, Mettenberger has averaged 2.45 seconds before pass, the 13th-lowest time in pocket average among 41 quarterbacks with as many action plays as Mettenberger has (88).

That's pretty good for a rookie.

Is it possible to link that?

As I said before, he was dropping and popping in the first half pretty well. But he held the ball a lot in the 2nd half. I will clock him on those sacks when I rewatch the game to see if my perception is correct.

Let's see how he does moving forward. If he can keep that number there without constantly throwing check downs and screens, we'll be in pretty good shape.
