Marc Mariani signs with da Bears

Good for him, glad he caught on somewhere in the NFL. I know some of you still have wood for MM, but lets look at the situation clearly.

Once the NFL moved kickoffs forward 5 yards the MM's of the world days were numbered. Having a player who just returns kicks became much less important considering the vast majority of kickoffs do not get returned. All of us know MM was hot garbage as a WR, and if a team carries say 5 WR's on game day, the staff is going to make sure that that guy can actually play WR at a pretty high level; clearly that was not MM.

He also had a terrible injury, and I don't think he'll ever have quite the same speed again. All facts considered I can see why we let him walk.

 

Clearly Whisenhunt values that 45th roster spot for game days not activating all 3 of his QB's, but what has Leon Washington done to deserve to play? Not like Kris Durham has done jack sh*t this year as our 5th WR either.

 

it also makes no sense to keep playing Leon Washington on turd downs.

there is no arguing he basically made correct decisions as PR and KR. He also was a patient returner and got everything his blockers put out there for him. Was not much of a WR even at the end. Still there is a whole heck of a lot good to say about a smart effecient PR/KR guy.


will be interesting to see if he gets on the field at WR and if he has improved there. All he seemed to do as a Titan was run a 3 yard hook and then drop the ball when the checkdown came

 

good points, but he was still way better than the option Wizenhunt choose.


guess we will see if MM is NFL worthy. So many times you never get to see a guy get a legit shot elsewhere.

 

Mariani did himself no favors this preseason at WR, but the KR in him still showed up. I get coaches not wanting to carry a KR who can't contribute on offense, but then explain Leon Washington...

That would be something, but they dont call him white lightning for nothing.

 

Bottom line. Mariani is NOT someone that should be "hard" to replace, like him as I do....That being said, Whiz has done a terrible job in doing so. I really hope Mett pans out so we can go D or a stud player #1, and not be forced to take a QB in an average class.
