I had the same reaction when I read that.

Any studs coming on the market via free agency this year?

No studs in this years free agents at NT. However, a logical signing would be Ahtyba Rubin, NT, Browns. Played in Horton system last year. Upgrade over Hill, IMO.

Only "stud" if you want to call him that is Suh. Lions are willing to let him test the market, i'm guessing he is going to demand a big contract. He fits more of a 3-4 end like Casey in our scheme which I wouldn't mind seeing at all.

Hill is no stud, but he is a solid NT. He collapses the pocket or ties up 2 offensive blockers like a NT is suppose to. Why are you guys giving him grief for doing his job?

I really like the kid out of Washington, Danny Shelton. We'd have to use our 1st round pick on him however. If we wanted a pass rusher, there are so many we may be able to get one in the 2nd round, someone like Eric Striker from Oklahoma. Shelton in the 1st, Striker in the 2nd would be a great first 2 rounds.

Whatever happened to BJ Raji? Did he fall off the face of the earth? If he's still with the Packers, I haven't heard a thing about him. I think he was a FA this past year.

Hill is a solid NT but not gonna win you awards nor get a lot of tackles or sacks. He's not supposed to.

Take a look at the Pitt game and tell me how many times Bell ran thru Hill's gap. We got killed in the B-C-D gap runs, not A gap. Pitt also took advantage of our S's not being great tacklers!

Our run defense will improve with better OLB's and at least one who is a dominant pass rusher. One of our run d problems is we have to blitz to rush the passer and that leaves you vulnerable to getting gashed in the run game. Plus, put a Houston at ROLB and teams will have a problem trying to run that way. Put Brown at ILB instead of Woodyard and teams can't outflank us to that side.

When you start taking away options for teams because you have the talent (not scheme) to take them away, it really increases your defense exponentially!

Hill isn't a world beater but cutting him isn't a great idea. He's a solid player and not a 'problem.' We have PROBLEMS elsewhere that need addressing more. Course, upgrading Hill so he's the backup is always a possibility...especially with a player in the draft like Danny Shelton!

I think he lost some weight or somthing, cause he didn't look as fat as he was last year. He also was getting pushed around a lot more than he used to.

Dan Williams from the Cardinals is FA this offseason I believe. He has really come on as of late and is only going to be 28 at the start of next season. Mediocre players with bloated contracts need to go.

All around great post Gut. I knew all of that but probably couldn't have articulated it as well as you did.
