That is probably the quickest path to success honestly. If we are sitting at pick #2 and a team wants to come up, we at the least will probably get their #1 next year. I would feel a lot better rolling with Mettenberger this year if we had 2, first round picks next year. Because if Mett sucks and we decide he isn't the guy, that extra pick gives us the ammo to move up next year and target a guy we like. Next years crop, from what I've heard is a lot deeper than this years. Kiper just said today that "there are no franchise QBs in this draft." Not that he's the final say or has never been wrong, but building the defense and fixing the line BEFORE we get our QB of the future (if it's not Mett) sets the new guy up for success a lot better than just throwing a guy into the fire his rookie year this year.

Kiper is a giant idiot but I definitely agree here.. Not convinced Winston or Mariota are franchise guys.. No other QB from this class even slightly intrigues me. If we can acquire extra picks to move down a bit and still land Gregoey/Ray/Beasley/Cooper, I'm all for it.

I definitely think Beasley will be there. Prob won't go until 10-15 area unless he kills it at the combine.

Clutchness is. If you're not clutch as QB, then you're never going to win a superbowl.

I agree. Winston will be the better NFL QB assuming he stays out of trouble of course.

Alabama's QB is looking better and better too. He might be a guy we target in the future.

Winston scares me more on so many levels. Mariota, yeah he's a system QB but he's one of those guys that I think can actually do well in the NFL compared to the past Oregon QBs or any other QBs in an offense like that. He has the build, speed, pretty accurate, good arm, but he does have that fumbling issue.

With Winston, just not all that impressed. He has a lot of interceptions, very inconsistent play, haven't seen a whole lot of progression in his game compared to last year, off the field issues, IQ issues (don't laugh, idk if he can figure out an NFL defense or playbook), character, and I just think he's slightly overrated anyway.

If it was up to me, roll with Mett/Vet/Rook (late rounds) and next year go for a QB if Mett doesn't work out. Focus on getting the right guys for our defense, mainly pass rushers, and fix the OL.

This is exactly what we should do.

There is no reason to take a QB with all the issues we have right now. A lot of people think that a rookie QB is going to solve all of our problems, but it won't. With no OL and no D, it doesn't matter if we drafted Peyton Manning, he would still struggle. Throwing a rookie behind this OL and asking him to throw 30+ times a game because the D is allowing tons of points could very well ruin a young guys confidence.

We really need to fix the OL and D 1st and foremost. And roll with Mett for 1 full year. Either Mett proves he is the guy, or we draft a QB next year who is able to come into a MUCH better situation, and flourish as a rookie behind a better OL and D.

The only way I would take a QB is if there was a 'can't miss' prospect in this draft ... but sadly there is not.

He's exceeded expectations but idk. He's pretty short, which has caused problems in the pocket. He even jumps to try and make throws at certain points, can't do that in the NFL. He's also a bit inconsistent throwing the ball. Will throw a perfect strike 40 yards down the field but will miss back to back wide open passes on the flat. He does have nice speed, when he rolls out he keeps his eyes downfield, and even with the accuracy issues at times he doesn't turn the ball over much. He would be a late round project, suited for a west coast offense.

Yeah he's raw but he has potential. I think he will turn out to be a Russell Wilson type player.
