question is: Do you believe in stats, eye test, or combination as the most reliable indicator of future NFL success?

Personally, I believe in the "eye test" more than ANY other predictor. Anybody else believe you can tell in the first game whether or not a player is a future star?

I think you overestimate your ability to judge talent, and I am not saying you are good or bad at it.

I just don't like the idea of myself personally being judged for my talent or skill by some guy who watches a few minutes, and then says obscure phrases like "He doesn't have 'it'", or something.

Besides, stats are just another way of sayings results. Nothing more important than stats.

Look at Jevon Kearse right now. He absolutely still passes the eye test. He looks like a freak, but doesn't have the same production.

I think its a combination but I also think its the X FACTORâ„¢ which certain guys just have that insatiable desire for greatness. The guys like JJ Watt, Jerry Rice, (insert 100 other players) who just have monster motors and rise above their tangible measurements.

The problem with stats, well basic stats, is they don't tell the true story. If a receiver lets a ball bounce off his hands and the defender grabs it, it's an int for the qb but really the qb made a good play and the wr blew it.

So for me it's a combination of both.

The eye test tells me a lot, but there are some things that go unnoticed till you look at the stats.

As far as the Titans go, my eyes see a pile of **** out there on the field, no need for stats to describe this team.

Yes. As long as you have some experience to know what you're looking at and looking for.

I'm still getting better at it. Sometimes I overvalue certain attributes and undervalue others. But within the first few games you are going to get a good idea if you spend some time.

Guys that pass the "Eye Test" for Titans currently:
    Avery Williamson
    Zach Mettenberger
    Jurell Casey
    McCourty
    Wilson
    Wright
    Warmack
    Lewan

With that said... Titans who previously passed the "Eye Test" and backfired:
    Vince Young
    Kenny Britt
    Albert Haynesworth
Levitre(remember when we thought he was the answer? lol)
    Griffin
Pollard(he's not worth the penalties, whether they are his fault or not, he gets called a lot)
    McCarthy
    Locker
Sankey(can we agree he's not worth the 2nd round pick now? should have went with my OSU guy Carlos...)
