I think you are understanding where I'm coming from. Some players possess and immediately noticeable and distinguishable level of play- both in their intensity and their aptitude.

Slow developers can occur but I think that is more the exception than rule when it comes to "superstars".

Yea its pretty obvious if a guy can beat other guys from the minute you turn on the film.

Last year, I felt like Aaron Donald passed the eye test. I really liked his style of play, and he seems to be doing well in the NFL. Likewise with Jeremy Hill. I guess sometimes that backfires though.

For a player with garbage playing around him, I think the eye test is the best method to judge future performance. The problem is that the more complex the position, the more challenging it is to judge with the eye, IMO.

For example, did Mett go through the right pre-snap adjustments? Did he go through his progressions in the order he should? We see the accuracy of the pass and whether or not the receiver is open but that sometimes doesn't tell the entire story.

Are they? Seems like he's in pretty good shape to me. Also considering his nickname was "The freak" I think he's a pretty good example for the eye test.

    That isn't the 'eye test'

Good job at checking out black men though.

I thought original topic was going off whether a guy measured up as a physical freak vs combing through stats. Is it just watching them play vs stats?

For arguments sake, just work with me here.

The stat test would apply to Chris Johnson. Great ypg, ypc, TDs, and long runs during his first few years. Stat wise he looks good.

Kenny Britt, during his first few years, passes the eye test because he would put up monster numbers, but get injured down the stretch. Hurting his yearly stats.

Klug is another good example. Rarely plays, but when he does, always seems to make a play. It doesn't have anything to do with how they look.

First- the eye test is for when just come in to the NFL. Kearse passed the eye test early in his career. Second, to clarify, the eye test is seeing them in action- not how they look standing still. Kearney fails that now.
