I've resisted bringing up Bryant because all it will lead to is me being called a homer. Still an appropriate comparison.

    Debatable.

They definitely love to market him because he's a recognizable name. I don't know if I'd call him a "darling" though.

All ESPN talked about the week leading up to the Notre Dame game was the autographs online. Once FSU won that game you didn't hear a thing about it. That was one of the highest rated games of the year.

Bryant was actually charged in the ordeal. He most likely paid his accuser off to refuse to testify. This happens all the time.

I have my opinions that the TPD probably didn't handle the case as well as they could have, but I mean the fact is Winston was never charged. The team drafting Winston should do their due diligence and make sure something like this won't happen again.

EDIT: full disclosure, I'm not an FSU fan. I'm a Vanderbilt fan. I do think Winston is the best QB in this draft though. I think the smartest move is to trade back but we need to make out like a bandit on that trade. If not, I think we need to draft one of the 2 QBs at 2 overall.

Last thing on Winston. We all complain that we do not have a face of a franchise. And that's true. We are a faceless franchise. OTs and QBs like Locker aren't faces of franchises. Winston would instantly give this franchise a face.

TPD absolutely botched the investigation, but they botched it for five weeks before they knew Winston was involved. The "victim" did not identify him initially. Speaks more to how police handle rape allegations in general than it does about FSU/TPD giving preferential treatment to athletes.

Then there's the whole three investigations(TPD, State Attorney and Code of Conduct) coming and going without any charges at all. At some you just have to consider that maybe he didn't do anything wrong.

That's definitely a thought. Maybe he didn't do anything wrong. At the end, what I think doesn't matter. It's what the team drafting him thinks. I wouldn't be mad if we drafted him though.
