But it isn't the single ejection that is worrying. It's two in such a short span and one early in a huge game.

4 steps my ass, maybe if you count his 10 second wind up.

He got called for targeting for leading with the crown of his helmet because of how short that Qb is you can clearly see him putting his hands out first. To think Ray is a dirty player, or is intentionally "targeting" is crazy.

You don't have to lead with the helmet to get called for targeting. You don't know the rules. The ejection was in line, and consistent with what the ncaa enforces.

Target—to take aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with an apparent intent that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball.

Crown of the Helmet—the top portion of the helmet.

Contact to the head or neck area—not only with the helmet, but also with the forearm, fist, elbow, or shoulder—these can all lead to a foul.

Defenseless player—a player not in position to defend himself.

First thing the announcer mentions is the helmet contact. Blake Simms is 6'0. Ray needed to lower himself to prevent a high hit, he also had his hands out to prevent the helmet to helmet. There was no intent to make an illegal hit.

I watched that game and thought it was a BS call and still think it is.

In the NFL that is not an ejection, barely a flag unless your name is Brady or Manning.

    Yea you are right

Its a 15 yard penalty, a fine, and possibly a suspension depending on his history.

    Quote the relevant pieces please

Defenseless player—a player not in position to defend himself.

Contact to the head or neck area—not only with the helmet, but also with the forearm, fist, elbow, or shoulder—these can all lead to a foul.

    Examples (Rule 2-27-14):

    • A player in the act of or just after throwing a pass.

What do you guys think about Joey Bosa? 6'5 285 with 4.72 speed according to nfl draft scout who right now has him rated as their #1 DE. That's JJ Watt like and would be a big upgrade to our pass rush. We'll see how he does against Cam Robinson thursady night. Bosa will be tested in many ways, against a quality OT, a power running game and a mobile QB and if he dominates he'll have to be considered in the top 10.

I like what the Jets have with Wilkerson and Richardson. A Williams or Bosa would give us two stud DEs which i think is a more important position than NT.

I was under the impression that Bosa cannot declare for the draft, or is unlikely.

In the act of throwing haha so what every defensive player is suppose to just let the guy complete the throw? What if Simms some how pulled the ball back down and ran off with it, it's pretty hard to stop when you had that much steam going.

yea, it is a bit vague BUT

    KEY INDICATORS

Risk of a foul is high with one or more of these:

    • Launch—a player leaving his feet to attack an opponent by an upward and forward thrust of the body to make contact in the head or neck area
    • A crouch followed by an upward and forward thrust to attack with contact at the head or neck area—even though one or both feet are still on the ground
    • Leading with helmet, forearm, fist, hand or elbow to attack with contact at the head or neck area
    • Lowering the head before attacking by initiating contact with the crown of the helmet

And that is with only one of the above. He was guilty of two.
