How do you know mett is "all in". For all you know he's back home smokin weed with his buddies.

Winston was avoiding questions on anything related to football. Dude just lost his first game at the college level and was pissed/crushed. He didn't want to talk to the press, but did because he had to.[/QUOTE]

Because he said he is, I know its just his word, but its better than what Winston said. Just losing that game should push him to be even more committed. He should be pissed and want to work and get better to not lose again. It should be motivation, but no, he is going to stop and play baseball. That shows that he is not all in.

First off, Herschel Walker is in a whole league of his own above just about every athlete ever. Second, I said that I don't care if he plays baseball if he does plan on coming back to school. If he does declare, which I am sure he has a good idea on what he is doing, he needs to be committed. He knows all the questions about him, and a easy solution to answer them is to grind. He isn't doing that. Its a 3 month try out to maybe be the no.1 pick in the draft. 3 months, that's all. Not a long time. I, and a lot of other, think this shows more immaturity and his priorities are not in order to be a franchise QB

People are reading a lot into what Winston said. Winston saying he is focused on baseball and not the draft does not mean the he plans on playing baseball while preparing for the draft. All that statement says is that right now he isn't thinking about the draft and is focusing on his commitment to the baseball team. Maybe he does play baseball and prepare for the draft but that is by no means what he said he was planning on doing.

Winston has a good chance to be the first pick in the draft. If he is NOT focused on preparing for the draft and developing himself as a QB, he will NOT be the first pick in the draft and could see a slide in round 1 that we've seen others take.

You misunderstand that the lead up to the draft is just to make money. It is NOT! Sure you make more money as the first pick rather than the 20th pick, but this time is used to prove your committment and show how seriously you take this sport. With a guy with such off the field baggage, a dedicated 3 months to get better and show his determination would go a long way.

I'm not saying he isn't focused on the draft, just that if he wants to go high in the draft, he needs to be. Cam Newton had off the field issues and came from a gimmicky offense...2 strikes. He also didn't throw real well at the combine. But what was he doing to prepare? Working with Warren Moon on his drops, throwing mechanics, reads...everything!!! And frankly, that's what separates a lot of unsuccessful QB's from the successful ones. You only have so much time to learn and fix things. 3 months where you can learn and practice every day is important, not only for where you get drafted, but fixing mechanics and footwork so they are good to go when you do get to OTA's and training camp where you're now trying to learn an NFL offense.

Winston may come from a Pro Style offense but he needs a lot of drop work as a large majority of his snaps are from the shotgun. And with his off-field issues, he could use some 'proof' that he's committed to becoming a great NFL QB. Mariota, on the other hand, comes from a gimmicky offense, but every game you watch of him you are impressed by 3 things. First, he's a football nerd...instead of partying, he's studying film and trying to get better 24/7 and this goes back to High School. Second, while it is a gimmicky offense, he has full command of it. And lastly, he has the ability to make plays from the pocket and has the mobility to make a lot of things happen. And like Russell Wilson, he scrambles to throw downfield 90% of the time and slides 95% of the time.

Both QB's have the talent, but you need more than talent to succeed in the NFL. You need a guy willing to commit to becoming a great NFL QB and Russell Wilson and Cam are great examples for what Mariota could become. Winston needs to show his dedication or he will drop in rnd 1 as GM's will convince themselves this is just another notch in his off-field concerns.

BTW, I heard grumblings that Cutler hasn't always been too inclined in film study and I would suggest to you that THAT is how some talented QB's never get to where they should.

Mariota's ceiling is probably Steve Young (though it took Young a long time to get there). A more modern comparison is a taller and faster Russell Wilson. However, I agree that I think his floor is Alex Smith.

Winston's ceiling is probably Big Ben and his floor is out of the league if his immaturity gets the better of him (ala VY).

For anyone interested (ProFootball Focus): Rose Bowl

    Jameis Winston, QB: +1.1

Breakdown: Florida State’s second-half collapse had little to do with Winston who played extremely well for the most part aside from a few missed throws and of course the fumble blunder. But even then, the fumble came on fourth down when he was trying to extend a play, so a fumble is not a disastrous outcome (the resulting return for a touchdown is, but that has more to do with the bounce of the ball) and his one interception came on a batted pass that was subsequently dropped. The one pass that should have been intercepted (Q2 6:44) was dropped in the end zone, so perhaps things even out in that area.

Where Winston shined was in his accuracy to the intermediate middle of the field where he did a great job of exploiting some of Oregon’s soft zone coverages. He consistently led his receivers to open grass and showed excellent ball placement on a number of dig and post routes. Whether squeezing it into tight windows as he did at Q1 5:31 or his quick read and release at Q2 7:10 on the post, Winston was at his best when throwing between the hashes.

Signature Plays: On passes thrown in between the numbers (much wider area in college than the NFL), Winston completed 20-of-28 passes for 246 yards and a +2.9 PFF grade.

    Marcus Mariota, QB: -1.4

Breakdown: It was a shaky outing for Mariota as a passer as he was inaccurate throughout the game and put the ball in harm’s way twice, one of which resulted in an interception. His near-INT at the 10:21 mark of the second quarter was a poor decision as he threw back across his body to the middle of the field but safetyJalen Ramsey was unable to haul in the errant pass. His actual interception at the 0:23 second mark of the second quarter was simply an overthrow on a crossing route that found safety Nate Andrews.

As for the good, ESPN did a nice job of highlighting Mariota’s read on his touchdown at the 6:53 mark of the second quarter as Mariota zipped the pass in between the cornerback and the safety to allow WR Devon Carrington to make a cut and take it 56 yards to the end zone. Mariota then showed his great touch on a 30-yard touchdown to Carrington (Q3 4:29), this time putting the ball in a spot that allowed Carrington to do work after the catch. As usual, Mariota was a weapon on the ground and he topped off Oregon’s impressive effort by beating Casher on the edge for his 23-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter.

Mariota finished at -2.4 as a passer and +0.9 as a runner.

Signature Stats: Of Mariota’s 338 passing yards, 243 came after the catch (72% of his total). He was 11-of-12 for 76 yards on passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage.

those are poor scores on a PFF scale, those scores suggest these are only average QB's

I've never seen someone go to such lengths to defend a fumble, and people wonder why I discredit PFF.

I liked PFF as a resource a few years ago but now most people (not saying a poster has) take it like fact. Anyone could break down film and give each player a grade. Why does PFF get so much love? Because they actually do it.

PFF told me that Derrick Morgan is a good football player.

    PFF sucks.
