I agree. With all the hype Winston has been getting lately I have a feeling Tampa Bay may be leaning towards him. It shouldn't be a forgone conclusion that Mariota will be taken 1st.

The best thing about our spot is that it's really gonna heat up after the combine heading into the draft. I hope and pray that Ruston is able to get the most out of this pick whether that be BPA or flipping the pick. This is absolutely his make or break time. He's got plenty of money to spend in FA, we're drafting at the top of each round and we've got the #2 pick.

If he plays our cards right we could be loaded going into next season.

I think if the Titans aren't vying for a playoff spot in the last few weeks next season then he has to go. I'm so tired of the Titans not being competitive. If they aren't one of the worst teams in football then they're missing the playoffs by a couple games. We need people to run this team that can get us out of mediocrity. Great draft picks + tons of cap space (should) = playoff team in the next couple of years.

Only thing we got going is Lovie never drafted a Qb before the 4th round when he had opportunities.

As much as I really don't want to take a QB... i'm slowly starting to realize it's probably going to happen.

I'm slowly starting to change my mind about taking a Quarterback, assuming it's Winston. The Titans haven't won a playoff game in 12 years. They've made the playoffs twice since 2003, but didn't win a game. Why? Because of our quarterbacks. The Titans had a great defense in 2008 but didn't have an offense that could put up points. I'm tired of playing 2 or 3 quarterbacks a year. We need that franchise quarterback and I am really warming up to the idea that Winston could be it.

Everywhere I've been reading or hearing is that Winston is a very intelligent football player. He's played in a pro-style offense at Florida State. While I think Mettenberger showed potential to be a franchise quarterback it seems Winston's ceiling is much higher. QB is really the one position that can will a team into the playoffs. The same can't be said for a defensive player.

If/when Winston gets suspended for doing something stupid we will still have to play multiple QB's.

OK, so the main point of your question is if Andrew Luck was coming out and had Winston's off the field bagagge, he is the unquestioned first overall pick in the draft. The problem is, Winston is NOT Andrew Luck on the football field...he's not close and that's the problem! If he had Luck talent on the field you roll the dice and hope he can stay out of trouble but you're pretty sure on the field you are getting the next Peyton Manning. With Winston I'm not even 'sure' he's gonna be a very good NFL QB. Leaving their rushing stats out, here's a comparison.

Luck as a full time starter in college had these stats...
    70.7% complete
    32-8 TD to INT passing
    3338 passing yards
    9.0 yards per attempt

    Winston's first full season...
    66.9% complete
    40-10 TD-INT passing
    4057 passing yards
    10.57 yards per attempt

You can see why Winston won the Heisman, the National Championship and looked like maybe he was gonna be the next Andrew Luck. But then let's see what happens the next year (2014)...

    Luck's final year in college...
    71.3% complete
    37-10 TD-INT passing
    3517 passing yards
    8.7 yards per attempt

    Winston's final season...
    65.3% complete
    25-18 TD-INT passing
    3907 passing yards
    8.4 ypc

Luck improved his completion percentage which was already very high (and he wasn't throwing a million screen passes), threw 5 more TD's with only 2 more INT's. He threw for more yards with a little dip in his yards per attempt (still high at 8.7).

Winston's completion % dropped slightly but he threw 15 LESS TD's while throwing 8 MORE INT's and dropped his yards per attempt by more than 2 yards (over 20% drop). In essence, Luck got a little better his last season and Winston fell down to earth and pas the threshold for the top QB's.

To put Winston's # in perspective, here are where his stats rank in college football...
Winston is a solid 19th in completion percentage.

He is tied for 25th in TD's thrown (and that includes a Bowl game not everyone got to play in). Brad Kaya, the True Freshman QB at Miami threw 26 TD's!

He is 6th in passing yards, which is great!

The problem is, he is tied for SECOND TO LAST in INT's!!!

But what does that all add up to? He has a QB rating of 145.5 which makes him the 29th best QB.

In case you are wondering, Andrew Luck was 5th in QB rating his final year (169.7). Russell Wilson was first that year with a 191.8 rating.
