The problem with your theory is that it is proveably wrong. There have not only been weak QB teams that made it to the SB based on their D and running game, but they have won them too. Big Ben is a perfect example in his first SB, right? How do you explain that one? One and done? No.

And as long as we are talking one and done...how far did the Steelers go this year? Denver? Carolina? Detroit? Don't they all have franchise QB's? And yet where did they go? Nowehere. So you can point out teams that have strong defenses and running games but not strong QB's that are out of the playoffs but there are just as many examples the other way. In fact, I'd argue theat Seattle's D and run game had a lot more to do with them getting to and WINNING the SB than Russell Wilson did.

And the last point is...how many of the above QB's were drafted in the first 2 picks in the draft? Do those guys have more rings than the others?

Now, if Andrew Luck was in this draft, we try and trade up to get him. But neither Winston nor Mariota look like Luck. Winston has maturity issues and I think the Bucs will take him first anyway. So do you take Mariota - a project or LW who's like McCoy or Suh? It is doubtful Mariota helps you at all next year so Mett is probably your starting QB anyway. Of course, we will see how he throws at the combine perhaps and who he trains with and stuff but that's the gist of it. Build the D, reload the OL to protect Mett and let's see if he can be a starter.

Stop typing so much I literally could not care less what you have to say Gut. If you mention Mettenbackup and starter in the same sentence you lose all credibility.

Russell Wilson is a ****ing beast.

In recent history you ain't winning a title without a QB.

If defense won championships the Bengals should have three in a row. The Texans would have a couple.

I would usually agree but Mariota doesn't look like he will be a successful NFL QB to me and Winston has talent but seems like he could very very easily get lazy when he gets the paycheck and either not care a la Jamarcus or feel he is a god and above work a la VY. Don't want either. Next up is OL or DL in importance. Defense is awful...

Leonard Williams is the pick as of right now.

We are too far away with talent to get "stuck" on a QB again...

Now if the front office were perfectly willing to draft back to back QBs in the early first round, maybe I would roll the dice (assuming either would be backup because neither needs to be starting on this makeshift team next season with Whisenflop as coach).

But the far worse scenario is this becomes VY-Locker-Mariota/Winston.

I'd rather try to at least improve from bottom 25% Defense to at least middle of the pack. That would go along way for any QB to succeed in the future.

To me it's this simple.. I don't believe Winston/Mariota will be franchise QBs. Now, I still need to watch them closely a lot more and that could change. Even then, the #1 QB is llikely going to TB.

So if I don't want to draft another VY or Locker, I look at the best available... And that's Leonard Williams. Dude can be a superstar for years.

Winston is too in love with himself to be anything less than great. I think he's a silly ass kid but you know what, he can play football with the best of them.

    So stop proving you wrong?

Wilson is a beast? How would he have done on our team with no protection and no running game? He has both in Seattle AND the best defense in the NFL to give them all the opportunities they need plus a lot of short fields and turnovers.

Point is, Russell Wilson does very well at extending plays, not turning the ball over and moving the chains with his legs when he needs to. But...

Did you know the Seahwaks are 27th in passing yards? He also only threw for a mere 20 TD's this year. In case you're wondering, he avg's 217 passing yards and 1.25 TD's a game. Is that what you're calling a BEAST!? While their passing offense is 27th, wanna take a guess what their rushing offense is? FIRST!

I guess a GREAT running game and a GREAT defense still wins championships...as in, the last Super Bowl!!!

Williams needs to be the pick. Yes QBs win you championships. Drafting a crappy QB like Winston and Mariota will also set this franchise back a minimum of three years. Have we not learned that yet?

Williams is the safer pick at this point.

We have so many holes that is doesn't matter if we pick O or D first as long as it is the best available per our needs.

Neither of those 2 QB's are worth the risk at #2
