You make it sounds as if everything is luck. That's ridiculous. There are absolutely ways to dig into a player and figure out if he's a rising/falling talent and if he will succeed in your scheme. To suggest otherwise is ignorant of the way football talent evaluation and development works.

If it's all luck, why even employ a GM or scouts? Just flip a coin every time.

Youre spot on about this stuff, but the Levitre mistake couldnt have been forsean, really couldnt have. Guys was on the up and up for years before hiting the market, seemed like a fit here, Webster did good signing him.

For anyone trying to convince me Webster sucks, use any other signing except the Levitre one, 9/10 GM's miss on that one IMO.

Yeah, I think you're right that Levitre isn't the right example to use.

Only problem with this is...this is how we ended up with Levitre and Oher and a salary cap mess we shouldn't be in (Levitre, Oher, and Griffin's contracts were bad)!!!

I totally agree we need studs, there just aren't many available and even less by the time free agency starts. PFF I don't trust at all so I don't care what they rate anyone. I only go by players I look at. Also, it's gonna cost you more than $8mil for Bulaga I'd guess which is why paying another 2 big contracts for guys who are not the best at their position isn't wise. In the 2nd or 3rd or 4th rnds we could get 2 quality OL to fill our LG/RT issues IF we wanted to go that way. I would go after the big dogs in free agency and only Iupati is on that list and a little grudgingly.

Iupati is an excellent run blocker and an adequate pass blocker but he will cost a fortune. He might be worth it! Then we could take the band aid approach regarding RT with Roos and maybe find his replacement in the middle rnds.

The problem is, Webster is 0-2 in signing big time free agent OL!!! Not good!!!

Why not? Did he all of a sudden get dramatically worse when he got here? That's hard to believe. I didn't scout him, but he was thought to be the best free agent guard available...that doesn't mean he's a great OG, but we certainly paid him like one and we are PAYING the price for it! I'm guessing he blows about 5 plays a game and they are costly errors usually! Maybe you could have given Webster the benefit of the doubt except he followed it up with another oversigning in Oher. Oher got the 3rd highest RT contract when a lot of people thought maybe he wasn't starting material. The ravens spent a first rndr on him and didn't want him. That should have said a lot!

No he didn't get worse, he started getting picked on tho. He's the smallest guy on the line, in Buffalo he wasn't the smallest, so he wasn't targeted. Here we made him the little guy and his game isn't about power, he's a finesse guy with sound technique. But you can have the best everything but if youre smaller youre going to lose a lot of battles. 303 vs most DT's and all NT's is an unfair match-up for Levitre.

We need to sign a RT in FA. There are plenty available. I like the guy from the Texans, cant remember his name. I seriously doubt we are going to spend money on a RG, that's too much for one position. If Levitre gets cut, anything can happen, I just don't see him getting cut. I see us drafting a G in the 2-4 round to compete with him. We have to many other holes to make another money by costing us dead money and new contract money. Just gotta hope he figures it out with Lewan next to him or the rookie will take over.

Derek Newton? He probably will hit FA, he had a tough time in 2013, not consistent enough to get a huge contract, but also better than Michael Oher, it would be moving in the right direction.

He improved a lot last year. Seems as if it finally clicked for him. I like him because he is coming into his prime and wont cost a lot of money. I want us to sign a bunch of top players, but we can. I rather have our money go to defense.

It doesn't work like that and you know it. Considering Oher, Warmack and Levitre all have struggled and Schwenke has'nt exactly been dominant, no one is TARGETING him, he just is making too many bad plays. He's getting beaten BOTH mentally (which shouldn't happen to a vet) and physically. Frankly, he plays like a lost rookie for about 5-10 plays a game. And throws in a penalty or two just to make sure we screw up at least a drive or 2!

He's not getting picked on because he's smaller. He's just getting beaten by whomever is coming. He didn't play nearly this poorly in Buffalo.
