Point is, when he took a steroid pre-cursor (not a steroid which he did at different times) which has the same effect in the body but was not specifically listed by baseball, is that cheating? He didn't technically break the rules...but he gamed the rules for a competitive advantage.

I'm sure the Pats did some tests to see what they came up with and how they can explain this so they don't get into trouble. Gaming the rules to me is cheating...especially if you know you are finding a way around the rules. In order for the ball to raise artifically to the minimum level, they needed to deflate the ball below the threshold of the rule so it's not like the ball was at 12.5 and dipped some due to the cold. Someone figured out how to do it so when checked it would pass but still get them the ball how they want it.

If the vast majority of the league is doing this, how come the majority of the Colts balls weren't dropped 2lbs? Do you have any proof whatsoever for this assertion?

NFL players and others are claiming an underinflated ball is easier to catch in the cold and wet weather. Mostly I am repeating this though it is true it's easier to grip (less fumbles and less errant throws) and easier to catch. I have tossed one around a few times though not in the rain. If you think it's a disadvantage to have an underinflated ball, I'd love to hear your reasoning.

A 1lb deflation I can't tell you if it's noticeable...it'd depend on how much pressure you started with. If it was pumped to 13.5 and dropped to 12.5, i probably can't tell the difference because I can't squeeze the ball with either pressure. It IS noticeable at around 10 or 10.5 because I CAN squeeze into the ball.

Good point but let's agree the balls were deflated past regulation. If the fine is 25k or more....how do you determine an OR MORE?

My point with McGuire was to see if you thought he was cheating when he took a steroid pre-cursor, not actual steroids. Since the pre-cursor has the same effect, it was a way to get steroids and a competitive advantage without technically breaking the rules. Someone will always find a way to game the rules requiring more rules and regulations.

So I'm guessing you're of the mindset that you can bend the rules as much as you want as long as you don't break them, right?

If this attendant is found to have deflated the balls (not just deflation from the weather), and we know the balls are always 'adjusted' to what the QB wants, does brady, belicheck or the organization suffer any consequences or you just fine the ball attendant and move on?

The question will be, what does he do when the FBI threaten to throw him in jail for tampering with a National Sporting Event. Does he talk then or go down for the Patriots??? Then again, like other incidents which could tarnish the rep and integrity of the league, does the league sweep this under the rug, slap someone on the wrist and hope it's old news soon?

Things that call into question the integrity of the game are serious problems.

that must be what he was cryin' like a baby about

I totally agree. At some point you are totally blowing past the spirit or intent while abiding by the technical details

I seriously doubt the FBI will get involved. That would be truly pathetic.

If that were to happen for some reason, yes the kid should absolutely talk. Don't fall on the sword for no reason. There's nothing wrong with being a "rat" in that type of situation.

Now that they have footage of a ball boy (or whoever) carrying footballs away into a bathroom, they can't completely sweep it under the rug.

I'd like to thank the Colts for being a bunch of babies and complaining about this, making it one of the most useless headliners in the history of the league. I just think it's hilarious that they made the complaint, the NFL replaced the deflated footballs with the footballs that the Colts wanted, and they got skunked 28-0 in the 2nd half. Serves 'em right.

I haven't been watching ESPN or anything. It's unbearable. I'm just waiting until Sunday to start watching stuff.

I still can't get over Mark Brunell crying about this... that is truly scary to start crying over deflated footballs. I think I'd be crying about blowing $50mil and going bankrupt instead.

104.5 was saying today the Evil Empire had a fumble every 180 reps and the league average was around 1 in 100. Apparently second on the list is closer to league average than the deflatriots

    Yep...

Still doesn't bother me... those RBs hold onto the ball for dear life or they're going in Belichick's dog house for who knows how long.

I expect at least one Blount fumble in the Super Bowl.
