Rumor Titans interested in Nick Foles

Is is realistic to expect Mettenberger to be significantly more mobile next season? I'm not sure it is.

I think his fatal flaws are being a statue in the pocket and a ridiculously long throwing motion. Put those things together and it's basically a death sentence.

It's possible he will improve both factors this offseason, but I still think the chance of Mettenberger becoming even a B+ NFL starter is less than 10%.

 

The experience that Mett got last year is invaluable. If he gets starter reps all throughout OTAs and TC, that will be a big boost for him that he did not get last year.

I think Mett will be much improved next year (now whether that improvement is enough is another question) ... But I really don't mind giving him a chance

 

He really doesn't need to be mobile in Whiz scheme.. Look at Warner & Rivera. Both were traditional pocket passing QBs.

 

You have to be a truly special passer to succeed in today's NFL with that level of mobility. I doubt Mettenberger is.

Not saying all QBs need rushing ability, but the modern prototype of a franchise passer is an Aaron Rodgers-type player who has a cannon arm and also excellent movement in and out of the pocket.

 

Another year removed from that knee injury will help some, plus a repaired OLine will really help. Id say his chances to succeed are higher than 10%.

 

There just really isn't an excuse, outside of laziness, that a QB shouldn't be anymore mobile than Mett. They don't have to be running QBs, but they shouldn't be as statuesque as Mett.

 

He's a sixth-round pick who showed fairly little as a rookie. Historically, that probably means his chances of becoming a long-term starter are less than 1%.

I think 10% is extremely optimistic.

 

listen, Mett has never been mobile, and his biggest criticism was taking too many sacks. The guy is going to need a great line, and that isn't even including the type of receivers he needs.

I don't think many teams have the talent for him to succeed in the NFL. Ironically, the cards when Wiz was there would have been his best shot, maybe the Bears.

 

draft placement has fooled you, dont look at Mett as a 6th round QB, scouts and informed fans all around saw him as a 2nd round pick, theres talent there.

 

My whole point was that if you separate out the subjective stuff and look only at the facts - his draft status and 1st-year numbers - his career projection is not good.
