I get what @RTH is saying.

I mean Doomsday > The Joker

But a villain has to complement his hero.

Batman is a normal man with extraordinary abilities and questionable mental stability.

His villians are a reflection of that.

That is one of the problems people have with Superman. When you write him as basically a god how do you give him a villain that is any kind of threat?

Superman's rogue gallery is awful for the most part. His archenemies is pretty much evil Bruce Wayne/Tony Stark.

Most of DC's villians end up just being an opposite version of the hero.

    Flash - Reverse Flash
    Green Lantern - Sinestro
    Batman - Joker
    Green Arrow - Merlyn
    Aquaman - Black Manta

That's what I've been saying. Why I feel Nolan's Batman works... because he didn't have to deal with powers... relatively normal characters.

He just made him as normal as he could. Still had the intelligence... but instead of the venom pumping, just made him a strong, badass fighter.

Marvel isn't as bad as DC when it comes to every character having multiple origin stories, but they still do it. The movies are based more off the Ultimate Marvel universe than the comics most of us read as kids. This FF4 appears to be no exception.

For instance, I don't know where the radioactive penguin quote here is coming from, but it wouldn't surprise me if some writer said that in some comic somewhere. DC characters all have a dozen origin stories.

I loved Nolan's Bane. Actually prefer him to the comics version.

The "radioactive penguin" bit was a joke riffing on Spiderman.
