So you don't like Cobb because he has Rodgers throwing him the ball, but you do like Thomas and Bryant, why? They also have great QB throwing them the ball. Manning and Romo are pretty good last time I checked. You have no clue he will have a drop in production. Though, he probably will on our team, but so would Thomas and Dez. Its about having good football players. Cobb is a good football player. Wimbley, Oher and Griffin had risk/old. Cobb has none of those.

To be more clear, all of the wr's are likely to have a drop in production on this current team as no QB we have can stay upright and get them the ball consistently under this kind of duress. But we know the OL needs fixing and assuming it is fixed....here's how I see it.

I think Whisenhunt wants a BIG WR to be the focus of the offense...like a Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin, Vincent Jackson type which I think was why he focus a lot of our offense on trying to get Hunter to be our #1 WR.

Enter Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas. Dez is 6'2, 225lbs with a 38" vertical and long arms. He is beast mode for a WR. And he's pretty fast at 4.50 at that size. Thomas is even taller at 6'3 and similar size at 225. They are the epitome of the BIG WR. Not only that, but they are the #1 WR for their team and we need a BIG #1 WR.

In comparison, Randall Cobb is actually a touch SMALLER than Kendall Wright. Both are 5'10 and 190-195lbs. Both run in the low 4.4 range. Wright has a much better vertical at 38 1/2" to Cobb's 33 but Cobb is a better returner. Cobb has been excellent with GB but he's NOT the #1 WR on his team. He will face tougher coverage on our team than he did in GB whereas Dez and Thomas will get the same coverage.

So due to the size, extra defensive coverage, and the fact that he's almost the same wr in Wright, I have big concerns to signing him to BIG money. I see him as a really good #2 WR, not a great #1. In addition, the coaching staff plays a big part into this. if we were going to an Eagles like spread offense, I'd love to have Cobb a lot more. But this coaching staff poorly utilized Wright this past season. His targets dropped by 36, 20 fewer catches, 450 fewer yards, ypc dropped about 2 yards per catch. The fact that they also seemed lost in utilizing McCluster doesn't give me hope they can utilize Cobb's talent as effectively as they could/should.

For the above reasons, I'd target Dez and Thomas first though if neither are available, I'd certainly like to have Cobb on the team. He'd probably outlast the GM and HC if they can't figure he and Wright out.

I am envisioning us signing him along with a bigger WR either in FA or Draft. Cobb will cost less than those two and that also appeals to me.

I just don't think it it the smartest thing to do to throw a HUGE contract at a guys like Dez or Demaryius. I would look at a 2nd tier guy like Torrey Smith. He is a deep threat who has always averaged over 15ypc every year.

I really think the most important piece to the FA puzzle is to land Dan Williams or Terrance Knighton. We have got to control the center of the DL. I think Williams would love to play closer to home having grown up in Memphis.

I would then focus on landing a RT. Looking at a guys like Newton or Parnell. No matter who is QB we have to give them better protection than they got last year.

Build your OL and DL in FA and then try to add high impact players via the draft.

Go Williams in the 1st and an OLBer/pass rusher at #33

Cobb graduated from my alma mater (Alcoa High School). I'd love to be able to wear a Cobb jersey that doesn't say Kentucky or Green Bay. For that very important reason, I feel he should be our top priority. MAKE IT SO. Super Bowl.

I had no clue he played for alcoa, my school plays them from time to time. Alcoa and Maryville put out serious prospects, man.

I just don't see eye to eye with you. Smith is a great deep threat, but our BIGGEST problem with WR's has to do with 1 of our 2 biggest problems on offense...3rd down conversion. Bryant and Thomas have much higher completions per target. Smith is barely over 50%. Bryant had a 15.0ypc avg as well and almost double the number of catches. Thomas had a lot more targets, also a higher completion % per target and had a mid-14's ypc as well. I'd rather spend say $13mil for Dez than $10mil for Smith. Better bang for your buck!

Only way I'd take Knighton is on a short discounted contract and why would he come here for that? Why do you want a 29yr old NT? Williams is a good player but brings nothing to the pass rush and I think you'll find that more of our interior run D issue is the fill by the ILB's. Woodyard was very up and down and only sometimes did Williamson and Woodyard play well together. With a better ILB at Woodyards spot, I think you'd see our Run D improve quite noticeably.

I'm not breaking the bank for a 2 down run defender nor a 29yr old run defender.

Why do you want mid-tier FA's you will have to drastically overpay to come here. less bang for your buck!

49ers has 3 excellent MLBs, they might dump Willis or Bowman, since Borland has stepped up and is way cheaper. If they do, it's go go go.

I honestly don't think we have a shot in hell of landing a true stub WR because why would a guy want to come to a place where they don't even know who their qb is going to be.

The only way we land any FA is to overpay.

I agree that we need improved ILB play, but feel that Hill was very inadequate as a NT. He plays way to high and does not do a good job of being the immovable force.

We are rebuilding and I start with the OL and DL.

As 2-14 team that looks to be going nowhere, the Titans aren't a very attractive option for FA's....except that there's plenty of cash to spend. And we all know that it hardly ever works out throwing big money at players. We will end up with more high priced mistakes if they reach too hard.
