Delanie Walker had a horrible Valentine's Day

I've got a twitter account and follow a few dozen athletes, but I have literally never posted anything. I rarely check it.

I'm on FB pretty much constantly. I interact with car friends and get some news and discounts on some interests that aren't necessarily mainstream. I control who and what I see on my feed. It has helped me out hugely when I've needed spare parts at an autocross or when I had a flat tire on my car trailer and no spare. A friend of a friend lived near by and brought me a spare tire within a few minutes.

 

God I agree. Sawdust- I know you're not a big social media either.

Rant alert:

FB, twitter just gossip on steroids. I know I'm old but hell I love communicating. I prefer DIALOGUE over "look at me", "listen to me", "don't you think I'm cool".... BS, faux, self serving constructs social media junkies produce.

I'm so averse to social media I don't even know the name of the one I think is interesting. Snapchat or something like that- where all you can do is post pictures- no comments, no "likes" etc. The only good thing I see in the social media is the ability to see pictures of your old friends to visually remind you to SPEAK to them. The pictures offer great talking points.

Social media is "all about me" nearly "all the damn time" at least it seems that way to me. I prefer reality. Real time conversation. Preferably in person with a spirit filled beverage appropriate for the company. Notwithstanding real dialogue in a setting such as that, I simply don't give a f*ck what mood you say your in, or what trite "insight" into life's truth you may present- hell less than 5% of the chit people post is original. And less than 5% of that is worth paying one turd pebble's worth of time to read.

I have had a FB account for about 6 months. Been on it maybe 6 times and not at all in several months. I guess I figured out that I really don't give a sh*t about what other people are doing, or where they are eating at the exact moment, or what insights to life or politics they may have. I agree with Riverman. Give me real dialogue face to face, the other crap is just that.

 

Some guys comment on the deadspin article:

"The dead giveaway Walker didn't write that post was the part where it says he only cares about himself and his "image." If that were true, surely he wouldn't be on the Tennessee Titans."

Facebook has certainly brought out the arrogance and self-obsession in humanity.

 

FB allows me to communicate with people from years ago that I haven't seen in over half a decade, but were cool people I spent a lot of time with back then. I like randomly catching up with people sometimes even if we never get together in person for distance or whatever reason.

 

Yeah. I have a few hundred car friends from all over the country. I might see them in person 1 time a year. I like seeing what they are up to and showing them what I'm up to, bouncing ideas off people and getting feedback, buying/selling things, getting help, etc.

I also like the occasional open invites to bars or dinner from local friends.

I miss out on all of this if I'm limited to calling/texting people.

 

If you cant handle me at my worst.....you certainly don't deserve me at my best!
