stats arent everything though, while i agree ware and kruger are light years apart. i was simply comparing him to them as neither of the two rarely drop into coverage. beasley and ray both are lighter and project more of weakside linebacker in the 3-4, not saying we dont need one of those too. if we resign morgan(who i believe is just average, not a standout by any means) then that eliminates the need for a replacement for solb. I wont be mad if we take LW either because of the fact that if you pair him with casey, then we ultimately get better for a long time up front immediately, LW is the total package but im just saying from my opinion fowler will be the best edge rusher from this draft(and my pick for DROY)

and stats are different because fowler was positioned all over the field this year and possibly last year too but im not 100 percent certain on that part, there were times fowler was standing up on the end of the LOS and others where he was playing dt or de so you know he is versatile in what positions he can play

Do you have tape of Smelter blocking Beasely? I did rewatch Georgia Tech vs Virginia Tech and Smelter was tight literally a couple of times and cut blocked once and blocked another time while the play went away. The only times he comes inside to block is to pick up the OLB which would not be Beasely. So I doubt he was really playing pattycake with Beasely. The only times Beasely does this is when he has outside contain and stays wide to force the play back inside...which is what he's supposed to do.

I did rewatch some tape on Beasely and still disagree with you. Just because a guy doesn't get tackles doesn't mean he's not active. Beasely is not the best run defender in the world but he is pretty awesome at shooting a gap and containing that gap. Very few run plays go thru his gap and several times he gets penetration into the backfield forcing the RB to cut away from him. He was pretty good against georgia for instance...a dominant run team. He let a fly sweep get outside of him and Gurley broke an arm tackle attempt of his after he shot into the backfield but they doubled him a lot and he still got pressure and penetration into the backfield frequently. Against NC State he was all over the field and frequently in the backfield and got a lot of pressures and would have had 2 sacks except the QB ducked and he ended up grabbing the facemask on one called back. But he also made a great highlight reel play late in the game when he blew past a TE trying to block him and basically took the ball right out of the QB's hand and ran it back for a TD.

In college, Beasely was asked to do one thing. Control his gap, wreak havoc in the backfield and pressure/sack the QB. He did all of that very very well. I doubt he can cover as well as Fowler or be AS stout against the run, but if you want a guy to rush the passer and get penetration into the backfield while still controlling his gap vs the run, Beasely is the guy.

We don't need a run defender who gets us a handful of sacks ala Derrick Morgan. We had that and that left us very vulnerable to the pass. We need a dominant pass rusher...not a versatile guy who we HOPE one day becomes Justin Houston.

I'm torn on this...mainly because I have little faith Webster will get good value and then because I don't have a lot of faith he won't mess up the picks!!! We could certainly rebuild our team with a trade down IF we get the right value and IF he makes good picks.

The two good things about Leonard Williams are that he'll be excellent from day 1 and we don't have to rely on him being coached up to be awesome. We just need to get him to fire off the ball 100% of the time!

Still not quite understanding the point you're trying to make. I think we need a great pass rusher and I don't see that in Fowler. He even got to move all over the field at multiple positions to present the greatest mismatches and he still only had 5.5 sacks during the regular season. Ray and Beasely were basically RDE's in college...where you put your best pass rusher and they both attacked quite well. Morgan was simply OK but at ROLB we got nothing and that was our biggest problem. I think Ray or Beasely fit that bill a lot better than Fowler. Project Fowler at ROLB for the Titans vs Beasely or Ray and I think he gets more tackles and a lot fewer sacks and pressures. And Leonard Williams on the Titans will do a lot more for the D than Fowler would IMO and have a much better chance at DROY!

Yeah I agree. I liked the Lewan pick last year even though most people didn't. When you can get arguably one of the best tackles in the draft where they did, with an attitude, I think that was good. Sankey remains to be judged fully, and Williamson was a nice pick. Lets see what Webster does here, I think he can do well with this draft, especially with Lebeau giving some input. I am not a huge fan of him though, and I agree that LW needs to be the pick if they don't trade back. Instant upgrade, plug and play inside and out, it's a win win based on the 3-4 hybrid they are trying to run.

I think the Jets are the most likely to trade up for Mariota. Every team knows that the Jets would take Mariota at #6, so #4 (Oakland) and #5 (Redskins) are hot spots for a trade. Both teams have many needs and could really use a stockpile of picks. Teams like Rams (#10) & Eagles (#20) are likely in contact with OAK/WAS to trade up for Mariota. The Jets need a QB, Geno is a bum, and they have a new HC - plus their OC Gailey loves a mobile QB.

    #2 for #6, #37, #70, & '16 1st (at min, would likely also get '17 1st or 2nd)

    #6: Danny Shelton
    #33: Dorial Green-Beckham
    #37: Nate Orchard
    #66: Best LG/RT/CB avail
    #70: Best LG/RT/CB avail

I'd actually prefer this trade to one w/ CLE or PHI. At 6 we're still in play for Fowler or Shelton. Philly/CLE would likely give us more picks overall, but #6 gives us an elite player. Plus, I like the thought of owning the Jets '16 1st, which could easily be Top-10 again.

Don't forget on day 2 we hold the 1st pick in the 2nd round. I'm sure some team would be interested in moving up to snag a guy who falls out of the first round. Would be a great opportunity to pick up a combination of later round picks.

Well actually Connor Barwin is under contract through 2018 at a very reasonable salary between $6.5-8 million and he can be cut in 2018 with no hit to salary cap when he goes up to about $10 million and a very small hit in 2017. Cox however is in the last year of his rookie contract but can have the 5th year option picked up for not that much since he was outside of top 10 pick. Gives us a year or 2 to see how he works out. Never know if Joey Bosa came to Titans next year or Shawn Oakman.

I thought about including Foles in the deal and trying to trade him to a QB needy team but what do you think would be realistic for him? Possibly a 2nd this year and a conditional 1st if he hits certain benchmarks and is resigned long term? Just want to know what we could actually get for him but would like to be able to turn him into more picks. That is a good idea that I like.

I really do think he would be willing to give up those 2. He is an offensive minded coach and Mariota is his ultimate QB. I think most teams would make this trade if it was for Luck or Rodgers, which in Kelly's offense Mariota is likely to be. Cox is good but no JJ Watt and they would be able to patch work the line with a few vets through FA like Canty when he is released. Also could do the same with Barwin. Maybe they would go after Worilds and/or Orakpo and re-sign Graham.

I realize the future picks are likely to be low but those could be used to move up or trade down with and pick up extra picks in the draft. Thanks for your input though about the Foles turnaround. If we could get that done it would be awesome, especially if we could get a 1st out of it.

If we plan on sticking with 3-4 I personally feel Dupree is the man we need. We can trade down and still end up with Dupree and a couple of other good players.

Foles is a hard guy to judge. obviously if he was coming off his rookie season, maybe you get a first for him. But he looked pretty avg this year when not paired with a stellar rushing attack. But no one knows what the heck is going on in Cleveland...I don't think they know either. I'd say if they ARE as desperate as they seem, a 3rd rnd pick is probably a hedge your bet pick with it going up to a 2nd or down to a 4th for certain benchmarks being met or not met.

I don't want Barwin. He's 29 going on downhill and been an inconsistent player. He had a great year in 2014 but sub par ones the previous 2 years. Cox is controllable for another year but then what? And the center piece of the deal are the draft picks which will be significantly devalued because the Eagles will play much better.

I don't like this deal for us and I don't think they think they need to make a hard play for Mariota...at least not jumping to #2. Remember, the Eagles may be thinking Bryce Petty can run that offense...or Hundley and they can be gotten in rnds 2-4. Why blow the eagles draft and stuff just for Mariota.
